1. ILU/ITU (Intermodal loading units-Intermodal
transport units)
•Container : sử dụng cho vận tải biển, bộ, thủy nội địa và sắt.
•Swap bodies (road & rail): hay là hệ thống kangaroo, hoặc còn gọi
là piggyback: được sử dụng trong vận tải bộ và sắt ở Châu Âu và
Mỹ.

•ULD (Unit load device) – air transport; ULD_container,
ULD_pallet
•Pallet : có nhiều loại khác nhau, theo vật liệu chế tạo hoặc theo
kích thước

- A swap body is a type of freight Container used for road and rail transport.
- Lợi ích: tăng dung tích chứa hàng, giảm trọng lượng body (tare)

European swap bodies (SB)
While ISO containers are for worldwide use, SB are more economical for
European logistics

1. More capacity for euro-pallets (or liquids): the width and length is
scaled to the maximum allowed for road trucks in Europe.
2. The design of SB is optimized to a minimum tare weight to
maximise payload.
3. Most SB are fitted with folding legs under their frame to change
from one truck to another or to deposit the SB at the destination.
4. Flexible: many types adapted to the concerned goods or logistic
requirements.

2. Minimum tare weight through light construction

The light swap bodies are transhipped with grapple arms

3. Folding legs for deposit at the warehouse ramp

The legs allow the truck to deposit the SB at the warehouse or to
transfer between trucks – no transhipment cranes are needed. A lot
of SB are used in pure road traffic.

Classification of swap bodies
The European swap body comes in three basic length configurations:
1. Class A: Long length - 13.6m long and more recently 45ft long
(maximum gross mass 34 tons);
2. Class B: Mid length – 30ft, generally for dry bulk cargoes; (9.125 m
long);
3. Class C: Short length – 7.15m, 7.45m and 7.85m length, generally
fitted with demountable legs and “corner fittings” set on the 20ft
container grid centrally; (maximum gross mass 16 tons).
The swap body is generally 2.5m or 2.55m wide, although refrigerated
swap bodies can be 2.6m wide.
