I. So-that, Such-that giống nhau thế nào?<b> CẤU TRÚC So…that (quá ...đến nỗi)</b>
<i><b>So..that và such..that đều được dùng để nói giải thích kết quả, ý kiến về điều gì đó</b></i><b>đã được đề cập.</b>
Trong câu, “so-such” dùng nói nguyên nhân tạo nên “that” kết quả. Tương tự ý nghĩa nhưng cách dùng của chúng lại khác nhau.
<b>II. Cấu trúc So-that và cách dùng</b>
Cấu trúc So that có nghĩa quá đến nỗi... mà. Kiểu chỉ nguyên nhân, kết quả và hướng tới khen ngợi hơn, cảm thán rằng.
Ví dụ: The meteor storm was so beautiful (Adj) that we watched it all night.
"So" được đặt trước một bổ ngữ (tính từ hoặc trạng từ), thường mang hàm ý nhấn mạnh cho từ đó. "So" bình thường có thể dùng cho một mệnh đề hoặc kết hợp mệnh đề that cũng như mệnh đề khác.
<b>Công thức mệnh đề:</b>
So + adv/adj , that + clause.
Cụ thể sẽ phân chia công thức đi với:
<b>Tính từ: </b>
S + be + so + adj + that + S + V
The meteor storm was so beautiful, that we watched it all night.
Nếu có động từ chỉ tri giác (chỉ cảm giác cảm nhận như fell, seem…” thì ta có cơng thức như sau:
S + động từ chỉ tri giác + so + adj + that + S + V
Công thức sử dụng cho trạng từ trong trường hợp đó là động từ thường, ta sẽ có câu đầy đủ: S + V(thường) + so + adv + that + S + V
The meteor storm passed so quickly (Adv) that it went by in one week.
<b>Cơng thức có danh từ đếm được số nhiều và không đếm được</b>
S + V + so + many/few/much/little + N + that + S + V
(trong đó many/few dùng cho danh từ đếm được số nhiều, much/little dùng cho danh từ khơng đếm được)
<i>Ví dụ:</i>
The child had so many toys that he could not decide which to play There was so little food that many people died of hunger.
<b>Đối với danh từ đếm được số ít thì sẽ là:</b>
S + V + so + adj + a + noun (đếm được số ít) + that + S + V
Đây là một cấu trúc nâng cao, tuy không ít dùng nhưng sẽ có thể vẫn xuất hiện ở một số đề thi khác nhau, đặc biệt là thi học sinh giỏi.
<b>III. Cấu trúc Such ...that và cách dùng</b>
Công thức là: S + V + such + (a/an) + adj + N + that + S + V
<i>Ví dụ:</i>
- It was such a beautiful meteor storm that we watched it all night. - It was such a quick meteor storm that it passed by in one week. - It was such an amazing sight that we'll never forget it.
Từ cơng thức bạn có thể thấy, nếu dùng such...that sẽ đi kèm với adj + n
Vì có ý nghĩa tương tự nhau nên bạn có thể viết lại câu với so..that và such...that.
<b>IV. Công thức đảo ngữ với So và Such</b>
<b>Cấu trúc:</b>So + Tính từ/ Trạng từ + Trợ động từ + Danh từ + that + Mệnh đề Such + Mạo từ + Tính từ + Danh từ + that + Mệnh đề

- The watch was so costly that I could not afford it => So costly was the watch that I could not afford it.
- It was such a beautiful day that we could not just stay inside the house => Such a beautiful day it was that we could not just stay inside the house.
<b>EX1: Điền So hoặc Such vào các câu sau</b>
1. I spend ………. much money that I can't save any.
2. Jimmy and Ken are ……….….... alike that I can't tell one from another. 3. Shames is ……….….. a nice dog that he never barks.
4. Those are ……….... great pictures that I never want to throw them away. 5. I am .. ……….. bored that I just want to sleep.
6. Our neighbors are .. ……….. kind that they let us borrow their lawn mower. 7. My back aches . ………... badly that I can't lift anything anymore.
8. Hawaii has ……….... amazing beaches that everyone wants to live there.
<b>EX2: Điền So hoặc Such vào các câu sau</b>
1. It was ... ………. dark that I couldn't see her face.
2. The day was . ………... hot that everybody went to the beach.
3. Most TV programmes are ……….... boring that nobody watches them. 4. We had ... ………. horrible day that we felt depressed.
5. I'm having ... ………. a wonderful time in Taghit that I don't want to go home. 6. This test was . ………... easy that I didn't need to check my answers.
7. The party was ... ………. well organized that everybody had a great time. 8. We had ... ……….long and tiring trip that we just wanted to go home.
9. He has ……….... beautiful voice that he should try to become a professional singer.
<b>EX3: Viết lại câu sử dụng so that, such that</b>
<i><b>Example: It was so lonely there.</b></i>
<i><b> -> It was such a lonely day there.</b></i>

<b>EX6: Kết hợp những câu sau sử dụng "such....that" </b>
1. Tom was a tall man. He could almost touch the ceiling.
1. Tom was such a tall man that he could almost touch the ceiling. 2. Mary is such a good swimmer that she has won two gold medals. 3. He drank such strong coffee that he couldn't go to sleep.
4. It was such a long walk that the children got tired. 5. He told such interesting stories that they all like him.
6. The boy made such rapid progress that it surprised everybody. 7. He had such a difficult exercise that he couldn't do it.
