Packet Tracer Lab: ICMP

Instructions
• Take your time going through this lab, it is not a race. Do not just click through the simulation, but
examine, think and discuss what is happening. You will get much more out of this lab by doing
so.
• What to turn in: Answer the questions below.
1. Reviewing and Starting Packet Tracer
• To review or familiarize yourself with Packet Tracer, review the lab “Using Packet Tracer”.
• Start Packet Tracer and Open the file: Ricks-Layer2Layer3Scenario.pkt
3. Sending the ICMP Echo (ping)
a. Enter Simulation Mode
b. Set the Event List to include only ARP and ICMP
c. Use the Add Simple PDU tool to ping from Host C to Host D.
d. Forward through the events. Notice what type of packet is being sent (ARP, ICMP ping),
whether the Layer 2 destination address is a unicast or broadcast, and how each device
floods or filters the Ethernet frames.
e. When getting the following message, choose “View Previous Events”
