A must for Salespeople and anyone who meets and greets for a living
The 5 most
POWERFUL &
EFFECTIVE
ways to make people
like you!!
Copyright 2011 Michael F. McDougall.
During the course of your life you will come across thousands of people. Many of them
will be strangers that you pass by and never see again. Do you think that they will
remember you? Probably about as much as you will remember them.
How you remember them is directly proportional to the “feeling” that you got from them.
I can still remember people from years ago that invoked a strong feeling, both positively
and negatively. I am sure that you can as well.
One of the things that remain with us for years is that certain “FEELING” that we had
when dealing with someone, whether it was a fellow passenger on a bus or a salesperson
in a store. The bad feelings can easily be transferred onto others for just having the same
look or name. The good feelings do the same thing.
How do you want to be remembered? If you are like the majority of the population you
want to be thought well of, not slandered when you walk out the door.
How much “WAK” (Walking Around Knowledge) do you possess and how can it help
you?
Here are some questions to get you started rethinking what you actually know: How well
do you know your industry? Do you have specialized knowledge that only comes with
experience? Are you an avid reader or researcher? Try to learn something new everyday
and relate it to something meaningful so that you can recall it later.
Most people find that when they are meeting new people they simply don’t know what to
say. Your WAK can help you this problem. I have the ability to speak to anyone that I
meet and have meaningful conversations with complete strangers. WHY?
Because, I want to be remembered with a smile…by everyone. Added to this is that fact
that I have more WAK than most people. I know a little bit about a lot of things. Luckily,
I also know a lot about several subjects. This allows me to open conversations with

people that are more intimate than, “How about that weather’?
Everywhere you go WAK goes with you! That’s why it’s called “Walking Around
Knowledge”; it’s always ready when you are! The more WAK you have the more
comfortable you will be in any situation, especially if you know when to relate
information and when to simply listen.
Get WAK’ed and impress people with your overall intelligence, demeanor and
general “WALKING AROUND KNOWLEDGE”…Don’t leave home without it!
This when added to the 5 secrets below will ensure that you are well thought of by
everyone you come in contact with.
The 5 most POWERFUL & EFFECTIVE ways to
make people like you!!

Just use the SMART acronym!!
Smile - When you smile at people they smile back, when you smile it triggers receptors
in the brain that will actually make you happy! When you make people feel
happy they will remember you with a smile. Nobody wants to be around people
who do not make them feel good.
Make Eye Contact - When you look people in the eye they feel that you are honest and
interested, when your eyes are elsewhere they start to feel like you would rather
be elsewhere. Ignore anything that is happening elsewhere…Make your audience
the only important thing that is happening.
Agree as much as possible - The best test for the intelligence of another person is how
much they agree with you. Making people feel smart validates their own opinions.
When you agree with them, they feel as though you are a kindred spirit, and feel
closer to you.
Respond with questions that evoke a YES answer - Once you get people saying yes it’s
easier to get them to say YES to your proposals. It is harder to say NO after
saying yes more than once. People want to get along with others; we are a pack
mentality and need other people that agree with our view points.
Talk in words that are appropriate for your audience - When you use words that are

above your audience they will feel stupid. When you make people feel stupid they
will not want to be around you. Conversely, when you try to impress with words
that you are not comfortable with, it is obvious and people will wonder who you
are trying to impress. It will also make you less credible as you are obviously
desperate to put yourself on a higher level.
