How to Write An Announcement
Announcements can either be good or bad news depending on what is going on with
whatever it is you are working on. Learn the basics on how to write an announcement
right here and now.
Instructions
1. Step 1
Before you begin creating your announcement, the first thing you need to do is decide
what to write. Announcements are for all sorts of changes in our lives. Weddings,
anniversaries, change of address, opening of a business, open houses and many other
activities.
2. Step 2
Think about exactly what you want to write. Ask yourself the famous five questions,
who, what, when, where and why. Always be direct, brief and to the point. Always think
about the details in order of importance.
3. Step 3
Be sure to have picked the correct announcement type. Many announcements can be
handwritten, however weddings, anniversaries and graduations should be pre-printed.
4. Step 4
Choose the format you want the announcement to have. For example, a formal
announcement like an engagement, open house, new business, or retirement are usually
off white or white engraved cards sent directly to the readers.
5. Step 5
Once you have chosen all of the above, now is time to begin structuring your
announcement. Do not confuse people with wrong messages. Keep it simple, with basic
information. Do not go overboard with explanations. Always start with a key verb, and
go from there.
6. Step 6
When you begin to write, make sure your paragraphs are strong and effective. Again, be
straight and to the point. Do no ramble on with meaningless words.
7. Step 7
Last but not least, edit your content before you do anything. As a writer editing is


something we do all the time. So remember, once you have gotten everything the way
you think it should be, edit, edit and edit again.
