
Today, computers are seen as artificial
intelligence, if any emotion, the computer
must be friends with each of them

Ex: If the people need operating system
to control behavior, emotions, body, so

Ex: The first OS was the GM OS
(genaeral motors OS) created in
1955
Kinds of operating systems

There are two major kinds of operating systems

Command Line Interfaces(CLI)
CLIs use only text and no graphics to display
information and user navigates by mean of
the shell
Ex:MS - Dos,Linux

Graphical User Interfaces(GUI)

A program interface that takes advantage of
the computer’s graphics capabilities to
make the program easier to use
Ex:Windows,[X_Windowns],Macintosh OS


Perhaps the most popular OS up
untill the 1990's was Unix on the
mainframe and [Ms-Dos] on the Pc

All versions of Linux and Mac OS X
can trace their roots to directly
back to the original Unix

Ms-Dos was microsoft
corporation's predecessor to
Windows
MS-DOS and its information

MS-DOS was Microsoft corporation’s
prececessor to Windows

A program designed by Tim paterson of
Seattle Computer Products called QDOS

Bill Gates liked fuctionaly of it and bought

He rebranded it MS-DOS (Rename) and
licensed it to IBM


MS-DOS became the underlying CLI for all
of Microsoft’s GUI OS upto and including
Windows XP

The main OS today on PCs is of course
Microsoft Windows

Over 90% maket share

Windows stared out as a home and office
OS.It has become a serious challenger to
unix systems

Unix is a system of multi-tasking,multi-user
and stability for severs,workstations and
latops.
Unix also has a graphical interface (GUI)
such as microsoft windows

The base unit of the operating system is
a collection of programs called the
kernel(the most basic layer which control
the hardware and the file system)

Another main task for an operating system is to
control which users have access to specific

set permissions on a file or a directory

including the ability to easily install and
uninstall software application, monitor
hardware, upgrade itself though a

network connection (update), and more.

Even basic productivity applications
such as web browsers and text editors
are now include as standard on most
operating system releases
Basic DOS commands

FORMAT: initializes a floppy disk and prepares it
for use

CD (or CHDIR): changes your current directory

DIR: displays a list of the files of a disk or directory

MD (or MKDIR): creates a subdirectory

DISKCOPY: copies all files from one floppy disk to
another

BACKUP: saves the contents of the hard disk on
floppy disks for security purposes

REN (or RENAME): changes names of your files

DEL: erases files and programs from your disk
