The government and the people of Russia
started it overall economic reforms in the
last years of 1980.
Before 1980, the economy of Russia was in
ruins, stagnant and under-developed. But
from 1995 to 2003, all branches of economy

increased steadily. To solve the problems
economic reforms were applied in some
sectors of the economy.
In particular, the Russia government have
concentrated on producing more oil and gas.
In 2006, Russia was one of the countries
which has the highest production of coal

and oil. The government also paid their
debts.
Thanks to domestic and foreign
investments, factories brought high-tech
machines to increase productivities. More
people wanted to live in new houses full of
convenience and of higher qualities. New
measure of economic reforms helped
farmers and factories produce not only
enough for domestic consumption but also
for export.

1. What was the economic situation in
Russia before 1980?
