1. Step1
Review the information that will be presented to make sure you have a clear
understanding of what needs to be taught. Remember this is the first time
some of your students have been presented with this information. You need
to be the expert in the classroom.
2. Step 2
Once you have become familiar with the lesson content, brainstorm several
ways the information relates to your group of students. Is there a new movie
about the topic? Does the topic relate to certain aspects of their community?
If you cannot relate this new information to prior knowledge already
possessed by the students you cannot proceed.
3. Step 3
Now it's time for actual presentation. Take step two and create a colorful,
meaningful introduction to the lesson. You could show a clip from a movie or
play a familiar song. You could even dress in character to enhance the
presentation.
4. Step 4
Through lecture, demonstration, etc. you will present the information. If you
lecture, take into account the students age and attention span.
5. Step 5
Next, guide the students as they practice the concepts that were presented.
6. Step 6
The students are ready to practice independently at this point. Monitor closely
as they practice on their own.
7. Step 7
As you close the lesson quickly review the information through some form of
creative, authentic questioning.
8. Step 8
Homework should be given only to reinforce the concepts presented during
the lesson.
