and which one describes opinion?
Expected answers: The first describes fact and the second
describes opinion.
Lead in the lesson: open your books to page 181 and do the same
task.


Task 1: The sentences below all appear in the reading passage.
Work in pairs. Which sentences express facts (F) and which ones,
opinions (O)? Put a tick (√ ) in the right column.

more than 43 centuries. 

Task 2: Work in pairs. Tell your partner about some facts and
opinions of the Great Pyramid of Giza, using the information in
Task 1:
Examples:
Fact: The Great Pyramid of Giza was 147 metres high
Opinion: The Great Pyramid is believed to have been built over a
20 – year period.
Task 3:
Before you do it, I am going to give you some useful language.
Now when you express your opinions, what phrases or sentence
patterns do you use?

Examples:
- I think the Pyramid was built by an enormous giant.
- Probably an enormous giant built the Pyramid.

Work in pairs. This time you discuss possible answers to the
following questions, using the suggested questions below.
1. Who built the Great Pyramid?
2. How long did it take to build it?
3. Where did the builders find the stones?
4. How did they transport them?
5. How could they build the Pyramid so high?

Work in groups of 4: supposing that one of you were one
of those who contributed to build the Pyramid in the old time and
tell your friends what happened with the construction of the
wonder. You can use the information in task 2 and 3 as help.
