The reported speech (câu gián tiếp)
I/ Gíơi thiệu chung
Có 2 cách nhắc lại lời nói của một ngời khác: trực tiếp và gián tiếp
* Nếu động từ giới thiệu trong câu trực tiếp chia ở thì hiện tại đơn, hiện tại hoàn thành hay
thì t ơng lai đơn thì chỉ cần đổi không lùi thì của động từ trong câu gián tiếp
Ex: The farmer says that, I hope it will rain tomorrow .
Động từ giới thiệu
The farmer says that he hopes it will rain the next day.
* Nếu động từ giới thiệu trong câu trực tiếp đợc chia ở thì quá khứ đơn thì khi đổi từ câu trực
tiếp sang câu gián tiếp thì cần phải thực hiện một số thay đổi sau:

III/ Một số loại câu gián tiếp
1. Câu trần thuật gián tiếp. Các động từ giời thiệu thờng dùng là: tell, say
eg: I live in Hai Phong , she said She said (that) she lived in hai Phong.
2. Câu hỏi gián tiếp
Trong câu hỏi gián tiếp trật tự từ giống nh trong câu trần thuật, và ta cũng thực hiện những biến đổi giống
nh câu trần thuật, và thờng đợc bắt đầu bằng các động t giới thiệu nh: ask, wonder, inquire, require, want

1/ Câu hỏi dạng đảo (yes/ no questions) : Ta dùng if hoặc whether để bắt đầu câu hỏi, whether
đơc dùng trong câu hỏi có or. Câu trả lời dạng ngắn gián tiếp gồm chủ ngữ và động từ hoặc trợ động từ đã
lùi thì.
Eg: Do you like music? , he said yes, I do , I replied
He asked me if I liked music and I replied I did.
Eg: Do you want the blue or green? ,he said
He asked me whether I wanted the blue or green.
2/ Câu hỏi có từ nghi vấn( Wh- questions) : Các từ nghi vấn đợc dùng để bắt đầu câu hỏi gián tiếp
Eg: He asked, Where did you go last night?
He asked me where I had gone the privious night.
3. Câu mệnh lệnh gián tiếp
Các động từ giới thiệu : ask, order, command, tell, request
Câu mệnh lệnh đợc đổi sang câu gián tiếp theo công thức sau:

*Notes: Ta có thể áp dụng công thức này với tất cả các động từ đi sau nó là động từ nguyên thể có to nh :
advise, threaten, remind, warn, invite, promise, want , agree
Eg: Stand up, Tom , the teacher said. The teacher told Tom to stand up.
Eg: Don t talk in class , the teacher said The teacher asked us not to talk in class.
4. Câu cảm thán gián tiếp:
Mở dầu câu gián tiềp bằng động từ gới thiệu exclaim.
eg1: What a lovely garden they have! He exclamed what a lovely garden they had.
eg2: How hot it is! He exclamed how hot it was.
5. Câu gián tiếp với danh động từ( gerund- V-ing) S + Vgiới thiệu +V-ing
Các động từ giới thiệu thờng dùng trong loại câu gián tiếp này là: suggest, admit. deny, insist on,
applogize for, accuse sb of, dream of, prevent sb from, thank sb for, think of, look forward to
eg:- Sorry, I forgot your birthday! He apologized for forgetting my birthday.
- I know I am wrong He admitted being wrong.
- You ve stolen my bike , he said to me He accused me of having stolen his car.
Notes: Một số trờng hợp không đổi thì của động từ khi đổi từ câu trực tiếp sang gian tiếp:
1/ Động từ trong câu trực tiếp có thời gian xác định.
Eg: he said, I was born in 1980 He said that he was born in 1980.
2/ Câu điều kiện loại 2 và 3.
Eg: He said, If I were you, I wouldn t come here . He said if he were me he wouldn t come there.
3/ Câu ớc(wish)
Eg: Mary said, I wish I were a boy . Mary said that she wished she were a boy.
4/ Trong lời nói trc tiếp có: could,would, should, might, used to, ought to, would rather, had better, its
time, as if
Eg: Tom said to me, You had better not contact her . Tom said to me I had better not contact her.
5/ Lời nói trực tiếp diễn tả một chân lý.
Ex: My teacher said , The sun rises in the East . My teacher said the sun rises in the East.
