Mark Twain, whose name is known all over the world, was born in a
small town on the Mississippi river in the USA. He spent his childhood on
the banks of the Mississippi. As a boy, Mark Twain caused much trouble for
his parents. He used to play jokes on others. He did not like to go to school
and he constantly ran away from home. He always went toward the nearby
Mississippi. He was fascinated by that magnificent river. He spent hours on
its banks, gazing at the mysterious islands and passing boats. He learned all
about the river and the usual people who rode up and down it. Mark Twain
later made those scenes and people part of the history of America in his
books.
