Modern inventions
This is the age of science and technology. Science journals carry news of new
discoveries and inventions. A discovery is finding something which already exists but an
invention is the creation of something new. From the manufacture of a safety pin to a
space rocket, science and technology has played a major role. Man’s labor has been
simplified, his comforts have increased and he is now armed with powers by such
scientific inventions. There are many modern inventions. The basic inventions such as
electricity, radio transmissions, aero planes, and computers are the best examples. They
serve in every sphere pf man’s life. The radio sounds are transmitted through microwaves
over long distance and it is the basis for further inventions in modern telecommunication
system.
The talking movie is another major level. Images are projected on a screen with
sounds. It has paved the way for rapid development of television and video throughout
the world. Among the most modern marvels are the inventions of aero planes. It enables
the man to travel thousands of miles over a few hours. Now there are jets which can even
travel at twice the speed of sound. The planes have served man from pest control in
agriculture to the modern welfare. Finally the invention of computers! A small silicon
chip which has a brain to which pretest programs are stored. Now we can not think of a
city without thinking of a computer existing in any walks of life.
The list of modern inventions is very long for it embraces the whole sphere of human

knowledge. The people who benefit by modern invention should have the determination

Teacher should make learning enjoyable and fun for their students.
I do strongly support the idea that teacher should make learning enjoyable and fun for
the students. This I support with the following (1)…
First let us take psychological component of a (2)… . A child or a student will be
more receptive to (3)… including studies, if the subject matter is presented in an
interesting and enjoyable manner. If not there is every likelihood that the student will be
(4)… or will reject the matter presented as he considers studying is a burden on him.
My second point is that the present day student faces tremendous amount of
distractions such as interesting television (5)… , drugs, distraction from opposite sexes
and many more. To get the students away (6)… all these and get him interested in studies

there is obviously no other way than to make learning (7)…
The present day students are also presented (8)… tremendous amount of competition
from other students. With this mounting pressure on them coupled with the lush
expectation of the parents it will lighten the burden on the young students with a more
acceptable form presentation (9)… is in an enjoyable and fun manner.
Retention is another (10)… that should be considered important. Any presentation
which is given in an interesting or enjoyable manner can be (11)… well by the student. If
the subject matter presented is uninteresting then there is likelihood that the student will
(12)… the subject matter presented in days or even hours.
When presenting a subject the teacher should create a desire amongst the students to
crave for more knowledge on the (13)… and this can certainly be obtained if the subject
matter is presented in a fun and enjoyable manner.
It can also be said that the present day communication system is so advanced and
there are ample teaching aids and (14)… to make teaching fun and enjoyable. So why not
utilize the opportunities to the full so (15)… the student at the receiving end can benefit
to the full.
Last but not least I wish to say that by making (16)… fun and enjoyable the life
expectancy of both the teachers and students can be extended
X. Read this story for pleasure. Translate it into Vietnamese and learn by heart all
new words and structures.
Dirt cheap
Hermes wanted to find out how highly men valued him, and taking the shape of a
human being he went to a sculptor’s workshop. On seeing a statue of Zeus, he inquired its
price. “A drachma.”, the man said. With a laugh, Hermes went on to ask the same
question about one representing Hera, and was told that it was more expensive than the
other. At length he noticed a statue of himself. Thinking that his dual character as the
messenger of Zeus and the God of Gain must cause him to be held in high esteem by
mankind, he asked: “And how much is the Hermes?” “Oh”, replied the sculptor “if you
buy the other two, I’ll throw him in for nothing.”
This story ridicules conceited people who are held in no account by others.
