PART B. SHORT STATEMENTS.
After you hear a statement, read the four choices and choose which one is closest in meaning to the statement
you’re heard. Then, mark your choice on your answer sheet,

1. (a) If we had had some money, we could have met Fred and Mary at the movies.
(b) We could meet Fred and Mary at the movies although we didn’t have any money.
(c) Fred and Mar)’ were supposed to meet us at the movies but their car broke down.
(d) Due to having no money, Fred and Mary were not able to meet us at the movies.
2. (a) I could not study last night although I was not very tired.

6. (a) We left too late to catch the train.
(b) We didn’t miss the train because we didn’t leave later.
(c) The train was late, so we had no trouble catching it.
(d) If we had left earlier, we wouldn’t have missed the train.
7. (a) John didn’t go to class because he knew there was not going to be a test.
(b) John didn’t want to take the test, so he skipped class.

(b) Bob didn’t study because it was not a nice day.
(c) It was such a nice day that Bob did not study.
(d) Bob studied although it was a very nice day.
