Clause of Time
I. Until
1. Mệnh đề khẳng định + until: chỉ ai đó làm việc gì cho đến lúc đó thì thôi.
Eg: a) Let us wait until the rain stops.
b) I lived in New York until I married.
2. Mệnh đề phủ định + until: chỉ mãi cho đến lúc cái gì đó xảy ra thì cái kia mới xảy ra.
Eg: a) You are not going out until you’ve finished.
b) I didn’t realize she was English until she spoken.
3. It was not until… that … Mãi cho đến…. thì …….
Eg: 1. She didn’t become a teacher until yesterday.
 It was not until yesterday that she became a teacher.

 It was not until he went to the park that he saw her.

II. Only when…. ( Chỉ khi nào …. )
Eg: a) I knew it when he told me.
 Only when he told me did I know. = I knew it only when he told me.
b) He was a prime minister only when he won an election last year.
= Only when he won an election last year was he not a prime minister.
III. Not until …. (Chừng nào…)
Eg: a) My student didn’t return my book until I asked them.
 Not until I asked my student did they return my book.
b) I didn’t get up until my mother
 Not until my mother called up did I get up.

Only when + S1 + be/Ves/s /V-2/ed + O + /do/does/did + S2 + V-inf + O
