1. STATEMENT
Mary : “I love diamond .”

Direct Speech
Mary said “ I love diamond. ”
Use exact words of speaker
DO NOT use exact words of

Reported Speech :
Mary : “ My father is a farmer.”
Mary said (that) her father was a farmer.

E.g :
a) Mary said that her father was a farmer .
