- Chỉ chủ ngữ tự thân làm lấy 1 việc gì. Trong trờng hợp này nó đứng đằng sau chủ ngữ hoặc cuối câu
khi nói.

Danh từ cũng cã thể được dïng để so s¸nh, nhưng nªn nhớ trước khi so s¸nh phải đảm
bảo rằng danh tõ ®ãphải cã c¸c tÝnh từ tương đương.

Khi so s¸nh bằng danh từ, sử dụng cÊu tróc sau:

Chó ý rằng ngược nghĩa với the same as l à different from Kh«ng bao giờ dïng
different than. Sau đ©y l mà ột số ví dụ khac về so s¸nh bằng danh từ.

Their teacher is different from ours.
She takes the same course as her husband.
1.1.1 2 So s¸nh h¬n kÐm
Trong loại so s¸nh n y ngà ười ta chia l m hai dà ạng: tÝnh từ v pho tà ừ ngắn (chỉ cã một
hoặc hai ©m tiết khi ph¸t ©m) v tÝnh tà ừ, phã từ d i (3 ©m tià ết trở lªn). Khi so s¸nh
kh«ng ngang bằng:
• Đối với tÝnh từ v pho tà ừ ngắn chỉ cần cộng đu«i -er. (thick – thicker; cold-
colder; quiet-quieter)
• Đối với tÝnh từ ngắn cã một phụ ©m tận cïng (trừ w,x,z) v trà ước đã l mà ột
nguyªn ©m, phải gấp đ«i phụ ©m cuối. (big-bigger; red-redder; hot-hotter)
• Đối với tinh từ, pho từ d i, thªm à more hoặc less trước tinh từ hoặc phó từ đã
(more beautiful; more important; more believable).

• Đối với tÝnh từ tận cïng l phà ụ ©m+y, phải đổi y th nh à -ier (happy-happier; dry-
drier; pretty-prettier).
• Đối với tÝnh từ cã hậu tố -ed, -ful, -ing, -ish, -ous cũng biến đổi bằng c¸ch thªm
more cho dï l tÝnh tà ừ d i hay ngà ắn (more useful, more boring, more cautious)
• Trường hợp đặc biệt: strong-stronger; friendly-friendlier than = more friendly
than.
• Chó ý khi đã dïng more th× kh«ng dïng hậu tố -er v ngà ược lại. c¸c vÝ dụ sau l à
SAI: more prettier, more faster, more better
Chó ý:
1. Chỉ một số pho từ l cã à duoi –er, bao gồm: faster, quicker, sooner, latter.
2. Nhớdïng dạng thức chủ ngữ của đại từ sau than, kh«ng được dùng dạng t©n ngữ.
VÝ dụ về so s¸nh kh«ng ngang bằng:
John’s grades are higher than his sister’s.
Today is hotter than yesterday.
This chair is more comfortable than the other.

He speaks Spanish more fluently than I. (không dùng than me)
He visits his family less frequently than she does.
This year’s exhibit is less impressive than last year’s.
So s¸nh kh«ng ngang bằng cã thể được nhấn mạnh bằng c¸ch thªm much hoặc far trước
cụm từ so s¸nh
A waterlemon is much sweeter than a a lemon.
His car is far better than yours
Henry’s watch is far more expensive than mine.
That movie we saw last night was much more interesting than the one on TV.
She dances much more artistically than her predecessor.
He speaks English much more rapidly than he does Spanish.
Danh từ cũng được dùng để diễn đạt ph¸p so s¸nh ngang bằng hoặc hơn/kÐm. Chó ý
dïng tÝnh từ bổ nghĩa cu`ng với danh từ đếm được hoặc kh«ng đếm được.
He earns as much money as his brother.
They have as few classes as we.
Before payday, I have as little money as my brother.
I have more books than she.
February has fewer days than March.
Their job allows them less fredom than ours does.
Khi so s¸nh một người/ một vật với tất cả những người hoặc vật kh¸c phải thªm else sau

• Đằng sau as v à than của mệnh đề so s¸nh cã thể loại bỏ chủ ngữ nếu nã trïng
hợp với chủ ngữ thứ nhất, đặc biệt l khi à động từ sau than v à as ở dạng bị động.
Lóc n y à than v à as còng cã thªm chức năng của một đại từ quan hệ thay thế.
Their marriage was as stormy as had been expected
(Incorrect: as it had been expected).

He worries more than was good for him.
(Incorrect: than it/what was good for him).
• C¸c t©n ngữ cũng co thể bị loại bỏ sau c¸c động từ ở mệnh đề sau THAN v AS:à
