A. Preview
I. Aims:
* By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand more about the international sport
event – the world cup. Namely,
- How often is it held?
- How does it develop to become the most attractive international event?
* Through the text, students also raise their interest in football.
* Lastly, students master the meaning and usage of new words related to sport in the text.
II. Content

B. Procedures

* Give students some questions related to football:

- Guide students to the content of the lesson: “What
international sport event is held every 4 year?”-
World Cup
1. Where was 2010 World Cup held?
- South Africa
4. Which team is the champion in the 2010 World
Cup?
- Spain
- Listen carefully the questions and answer
them.
3. Teach
(30 minutes)
I. Before you read (5 minutes)
• Ask students to look at the picture on the book,
then ask questions:
Questions:
- Open the book and look at the picture.
- Answer the questions.

• Work in pairs to answer the 3 questions on the
book (p. 142)

• Supervise and give help for students if necessary
• Ask students to answer the questions.
• Check the answers and give feedback (if

II. While you read (20 minutes)
A. New words
1. passionate (v): showing strong feelings of

• Ask student to read after the teacher.
