1. Warm up : Chatting
- Introduce myself and ask them some information.
2. Look, listen and repeat:
- Ask ss to open their book on page 6. Focus their attention on
the title of the unit, the ps and the texts.
- Ask ss to look at the ps and identify the characters in the ps.
Then ask them to discuss what is happening in each ps. Use
an atlas to show the country or city.
- Write the new vocab on the board and get ss to say the
words a few times.
- Play the tape twice: once for ss to listen all the way through
and once for them to repeat.
2. Point, ask and answer:
- Set the context. Elicit their prompts to complete the text in
the speech bubbles. Write the qs, answer on the board, and get
ss to repeat the lines a few times.
- Make models the task with the whole class.
Ask ss to practice in pairs.
- Call some pairs to perform in front of the class using
flashcards. Others comment.
3 Listen and tick:

Ask ss to look at the ps and tell them the purpose of listening.
- Suggest ss to make guesses based on the ps and the
contextual clues as they listen.
- Do the first example with ss. Then play the tape twice:
once for ss to listen all the way through and once for them to
do the task.
- Play the tape again for ss to check their answers. Get them to
correct their answers in pairs
- Read out the correct answers to the class.

- Use flags of the countries. (divide W-C into 2 groups)
2. Listen and repeat:
- Ask ss to open their book on page 8. Stick the sheet of
paper with the section written on it on the board. Pay
attention to the sound of the letters “ese” and “ian”.
3. Listen and read together:
- Pay ss’ attention to the ps in this section. Elicit their names
to set the context.
- Pre – teach the new vocab: using the ps.
- Write the new words on the board and get ss to repeat them
a few times. Read each dialogue, and then have ss repeat
each line in the dialogues.
- Model: Read dialogue a, one clap for ending “ese” and two
claps for ending “ian”. Get ss to clap in the same way as you
read each dialogue again. Then ask ss to repeat each line of
the dialogues.
- Play the tape twice: once for ss to listen all the way through
and once for them to clap at the focused words.

- Divide the class into 4 groups to take turns to repeat the
lines from Mai, Akio, Azmi and Zack.
4. Group and say aloud.
- Ask sts to look at the table, listen and repeat.
- Ask sts to group the similar letters then read aloud.
- Call some sts to the board and write down, then read aloud
in front of class.
- Check the answers.
5. Listen and number
- Ask sts to look at the ps & guess name of nation in each ps.
- Play the tape twice: once for ss to listen all the way through
and once for them to do the task.
- Replay the tape for ss to check their answers.
- Ask ss to trade their answers in pairs and call some ss to
give their answers.
