LESSON PLAN
Unit 12: The Asian Games
Period 2: Speaking
Time allotted: 45 minutes
Class: 11B1
Date: Tuesday, March 8

I. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
+ ask and give information about some types of sports in The Asian Games.
+ express their own ideas about sport results and about their favorite games or
athletes.
+ use useful language to talk about the Asian Games
+ know how to work in groups, pairs.
II. Teaching aids: textbook, handouts, posters.
III. Anticipated problems: students may not have enough vocabulary to talk about
the topic, so teacher should be ready to provide help.

Games: Matching
- T divides the class into 2 groups (Group A and Group B); each
group chooses a group leader.


- T sticks 6 flags and 6 names of countries on the board.
- T gives some instructions: “There are 6 flags and 6 names of
countries. Match the flags with the correct countries. When you
finish, your group leader will write your answers on the board. The
group that has all correct answers in the shortest time will be the
winner.”
- T uses the technique: STEP- BY STEP to check the instructions.
Group work
- T lets students finish the game in 3 minutes.
- T checks; gives comments and feedback (see Appendix A)

3 minutes. After 3 minutes, I will call on some pairs to present your
dialogue in front of class”.

Korea in 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, I will call on some students to
present your dialogue in front of class”.

Activity 3: Group Discussion
preparation: 5 minutes
presentation: 5 minutes (5 students)
- T gives some instructions: “Work in groups. Decide the
group leader and the secretary of each group. Talk about an
athlete they like most among following 4 athletes in 5 minutes.
After discussing, the group leader will report their group members’
ideas in front of class in 1 minute”.
- T uses the technique: STEP- BY- STEP to check the
instructions.
- T gives an example to students: In my group, Thanh likes

Nguyen Thi My Duc most. She had a bronze medal in Wushu at the

Asian Games in Busan, Korea. And
- T shows 4 pictures with following information on the board
(see APPENDIX C)
- T lets students work in 5 minutes.
- T goes around the classroom to help if necessary.
- T asks some group leaders to present their group members’
ideas in front of class.

- T asks students to give their ideas/ feeling of the class and the
teacher’s teaching method.
