"Some countries achieve international sports by building specialised facilities to train top
athletes, instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think this is
positive or negative development?"
Nowadays, international sports games have become a playing field for national sports
industry to showcase their best talents and bring home positive publicity and admiration.
Thus, some countries are willing to invest heavily in building specialized training complex to
up skill their athletes, instead of fitness facilities for the public use. While I personally think
this is a positive development, it also has some drawbacks that are worth discussing.
As mentioned above, the main reason for this trend is almost any country wants to be
recognized for their sports industry. The only way to do that is to offer elite sports players
high-class training areas including modern equipment monitoring athletes’ physical states.
Another advantage of having domestic facilities is that government can reduce the cost of
sending the athletes team for abroad coaching. For example, Australia has long been well
known for its gold medal swimming team due to their internally developed method of training
and sufficient investment in infrastructures. Moreover, this trend of development may have a
positive impact on younger generations whom, in turn, will be more likely to choose sports
professions, contributing to the booming of national sports industry in many years to come.
However, having said that, these training stadiums usually take up enormous cost of capital
and limited spaces that would have otherwise been used to build public sports areas. As a
result, people will have fewer places to go for exercises and play their favourite common
sport such as badminton or swimming. Even when local gym and fitness centres are built in
some suburbs, it is not always accessible to people who are not from well-off background.
This may unfortunately increase chances of people leading a sedentary lifestyle which is
totally against the active lifestyle that sports is trying to promote.
In conclusion, I believe that the benefits of building specialized training centres for top
athletes clearly outweigh the minor drawbacks on the general well-being of the public. It is
suggested that a balancing act is required from the authorities to minimize the potential
drawbacks of the issue.

IELTS SPEAKING - TOPIC: HEALTH AND DIET
1. What would you say your favourite food?
Well, I would have to say I like Vietnamese traditional food, but the best is Banh Xèo- one of
the most nutritious and tasty foods in Viet Nam. It is a perfect combination of flour, pork,
shrimps and bean sprouts.
2. And what your least favorite food?
Vietnamese people really like dog meat, but I’ve never been fond of dog meat because I
belong to buddhism. Therefore, eating dog meat is considered to be guilty.
3. How many meals do you have?
Well, I’m deeply conscious of healthy eating, so my meals are divided into breakfast, lunch

in the blood.
4. Would you say you have a sweet tooth?
I guess so. I share the mutual interest in something sweet with my mother. In fact, I cannot
resist the temptation of sweet soup made of glutinous rice and green bean.

MY TOPIC:
People in all modern societies use drugs, but today’s youth are experimenting with both legal
and illegal drugs, and at an increasing early age.
Discuss the causes and effects of widespread drug use by young people in modern day

society. Make any recommendations you feel are necessary to help fight youth drug abuse.
His Essay:
Youth drug abuse is an extremely acute problem confronting us in contemporary society,
which makes sociologists and educationists greatly concerned. Not only is illegal drug use on
the rise, but juvenile adolescents are experimenting with alcohol, tobacco and even heavily
addicted to substances. The reasons for this behavior are unclear, but negligence of parents
and unhealthy living surroundings can account for this alarming trend.
Initially, the loss of cozy family and unhealthy living surroundings can be considered as an
underlying reason why the rate of experimenting with illegal drugs in teenagers has
increased remarkably these days. In fact, parents who drink and smoke to excess are, in
effect, telling their children that it is acceptable to abuse their bodies with drugs.
Consequently, juniors attempt to imitate these detrimental substances until then addicted
hopelessly. Moreover, in the bustling life, families spend less time together, as a result,
adolescents may be abetted by bad peers in dissolute life, drinking or even becoming heroin
addicts on the grounds that they do not receive sufficient guidance of discriminating between
basic moral and evil things.
In terms of the negatively far-reaching impacts of drug abuse, drug addiction may affect
personal lives and whole society greatly. The effects of banned drugs can ruin young talents
and skills which are helpful to make great contributions to the construction of the world . For
example, those who drink and drive may be involved in fatal road accidents because of
losing control and cognitive capacity. Last but not least, enormous amounts of money are
spent on convicting drug dealers and on building drug rehabilitation clinics.
In brief, I recommend that the most sensible way to combat this problem successfully is to
educate young people about hazards of drug abuse. In addition, Parents should provide an
excellent model for their children to imitate as well as make sure that detrimental stimulants
are kept away from them.
NG CÁC EM PART 3 C A CH : Describe a friend who you think a good leader?J \ \ W]
1. In your culture, what kinds of people can be leaders?
- People who possess a high level of tolerance of stress, innovation, integrity and
responsibility can be great leaders in my country. With these traits, it is easy for them to gain

trust from others.
2. Has there been a change in characteristics that a leader should have?
- There have been dramatic changes in attributes of a leader. First of all, they should be
astute, understanding the situations rapidly and taking advantages of them. More
importantly, they should have a high level of competence in computer and foreign
languages.
3. Many women are earning more money, does it mean that they can be good leaders?
- In the past, it was difficult for women to achieve success in leadership roles because they

TOPIC:
In many countries, young people leave rural areas to study or work in cites. What do you
think are reasons of this ? Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
In an accelerating pace of urbanization these days, a variety of young generations from rural
areas are lured to vibrant cities by the prospect of a highly lucrative job and a deep-rooted
desire of obtaining academic qualifications. in my point of view, this issue can give young
people a huge diversity of benefits to broaden their horizons; however, it also has exerted
considerable pressure on public order.
On one hand, thanks to the infrastructural development in colossal cities, young people can
facilitate their ready access to a prestigious education system and a brilliant career. it cannot

be denied that first-class facilities of some well-established universities in bustling cities can
help students narrow down the disparity between theory and practice. Additionally,
opportunities in cities are various from education to job-hunting; therefore, undergraduates
will have many available options to do part-time jobs to financially support themselves. Last
but not least, life in cities is full of hustle and bustle, which stimulates students to promote
their competitive spirit. as a result, they can meet rigorous standards of transnational
companies.
On the other hand, young people can launch on a path of malfeasance by a dearth of good
education. According to some statistics, as they want to make a quick buck, they are easily
abetted by bad peers. Another burning issue is that many innocent girls are abducted and
transformed into prostitutes in brothels. Finally, there has been widespread popularity of the
fact that numerous students cannot resist the temptation to try on heroin and even be
initiated into the world of mugging or smuggling to satisfy their addition.
To sum up, the annual invasion of young dwellers to big cities has shown a number of
advantages as well as disadvantages, but the beneficial factors outnumber the potential
drawbacks. I am utterly convinced that they should equip themselves with sufficient
information carefully before studying and working in such a competitive and complicated
environment so as to become law-abiding citizens.

To sum up, the annual invasion of young dwellers to big cities has shown a number of
advantages as well as disadvantages, but the beneficial factors outnumber the potential
drawbacks. I am utterly convinced that they should equip themselves with sufficient
information carefully before studying and working in such a competitive and complicated
environment so as to become law-abiding citizens.

. How has people’s way of relaxing changed recently?
Well, in the past , people used to entertain in a conventional way, such as playing chess,
sport, watching TV or reading books. But now, in an accelerating pace of life , people have a
wide range of selections for their recreation like taking part in transnational tours to enjoy the
magnificence of landscapes and historical places. Moreover, they can stay at home and
have access to the internet so as to catch up on gossip with their friend and make more
rapport to strengthen their sense of community.
2. what do you think are the major problems in sport?
The main problem in sport, I think, is to give a drug to an athlete or an animal to stimulate
their performance in a race is very widespread these days, which is called dopping. You
know, in sport, we should attach the great value to fair play and international friendship
among nations, but with dopping, everything has changed and detrimental impacts on
sportsmen are extremely severe. Therefore, it is imperative for everybody to be fully aware of
hazardous effects of dopping and join hands to wage against it.

Well, I’m deeply conscious of healthy eating, so my meals are divided into breakfast, lunch
and dinner. However, I hardly eat anything after 7.pm because it is easy for fat to accumulate
in the blood.
4. Would you say you have a sweet tooth?
I guess so. I share the mutual interest in something sweet with my mother. In fact, I cannot
resist the temptation of sweet soup made of glutinous rice and green bean.

5. How would you improve public transport in your country?
Well, frankly speaking, I’ve never thought about that, but I guess If I had the authority to
change something about public transport in my country, I would certainly pour a huge
amount of money into ensuring punctual and hygienic buses and offering additional routes to
avoid commuters being squeezed into overcrowded buses or trains.
6. What is your favourite mode of transport?
I would have to say car is my favourite transport simply because cars offer a much greater
degree of flexibility in the way I work and travel. For example, I can drive home from work
late at night without a rational dread of robbers and muggers. Furthermore, instead if
spending my time anxiously waiting for bus, I can travel whenever and whatever I want.
7. Do you prefer to be a driver or a passenger?
I prefer to be a passenger because it is less stressful. I don’t need to pay attention to the
traffic situation. If I am a driver, it is very frustrated to lose my way or get stuck in traffic

congestion. All in all, being a passenger is my preference because I can spend time enjoying
the spectacular natural landscapes.
TOPIC: Clothing
1. What types of clothes do you like wearing?
- Well, there is a variety of clothing, but I am quite partial to Jeans because they are simply designed and
wearing jeans can help me feel highly active and comfortable. A reasonable explanation for this would be
that I dress for comfort rather than glamour. Therefore, I think jeans are suitable for me.
- Well, there is a variety of clothing, but I am quite partial to Ao Dai because it is Vietnamese traditional
clothing. When I wear Ao Dai, I always feel proud of my country because people in the world find it
interesting and unique.

You should say:

I received a valuable gift from my mother about three months ago on the occasion of my
birthday. It is a famous brand leather jacket that I have a particular fancy for. My mother told
me that she had bought it from a supermarket called BIG C. She gave me this present

that is exactly my favorite colour simply because it symbolizes hope and belief. Another
reason why I am really into my jacket is that it is very stylish, comfortable and goes with
almost everything in my wardrobe . I will treasure it because it comes from one of my dearest

Topic:
An old saying goes “spare the rod, and spoil the child”. To what extent do you agree?
My answer:
Parents play such a vital role in shaping their children’s temperament that parenthood
requires complicated duties and a vast sense of responsibilities. However, some fathers and
mothers often employ corporal punishment as a main procedure in child rearing. My view on
this matter is that it is an evil practice for beating children and it must be abolished at any
cost.
From one side, the use of corporal punishment can be considered as an immoral practice.
There is a gathering belief that those who suffer from physical punishment may be obsessed
for their whole life. It is indisputable that they may find it difficult to preserve their sense of
dignity when their contemporaries catch them being beaten by their parents. It is likely that
parents may unintentionally cause some scars for their offspring, which makes them be able

to feel insecure about their appearance and alienated from the surrounding people.
From the other side, physical torture may inflict serious harm on children’s character.
Actually, they may be less friendly and more aggressive on the grounds of the influences of
violent factors on their manners. According to some studies, children who are long exposed
to corporal punishment may have a disposition towards criminal behaviors. For instance,
when they are mature, they may have a tendency to sadism.
Upholders of this practice contend that physical punishment is indispensable in their child
nurture. They claim that thanks to it, their children will be strongly aware of their mistakes
and try to avoid violating them again. This point has some merit on the surface. However,in
my viewpoint, it is no doubt that bad behavior cannot change immediately. Therefore,
physical punishment can aggravate the problem and make naughty children more callous.
To sum up, the standards of becoming an immaculate parent consist of moral responsibility,
patience and tolerance. As a result, corporal punishment should be discouraged. It is
preferable that parents should calmly present a detailed analysis of how wrong their children
did. Moreover, it is vital for people to keep in mind that violence just makes every problem
more acute.

TOPIC :
In many countries children are engaged in different kinds of paid work. Some people regard
this as completely wrong, while others consider it a valuable work experience, important for
learning and taking responsibility. What is your opinion?
SUGGESTED ANSWER:
Young generations play a decisive role in the eye-catching prosperity of a country; hence,
they should be carefully nurtured in a healthy living environment. The issue of whether
children should participate in some paid work or not has sparked a heated debate. While
some argue that having some practical experience is beneficial to a child’s learning and
development, I contend that it would hazard the child’s heath and learning process.
First of all, a workplace designed for adults is not eminently suitable for children. Desks and
chairs are too high for a child;children cannot reach the light switches that are installed on
the walls. Furthermore, emergency training and facilities such as phones are only provided to
adults. Additionally , various dangers such as contaminated air and chemical fumes are still
released from factories and farms, which can lead to children's health deterioration.
In addition, children would feel frustrated when they are not properly prepared before
embarking on a job. A child working in a cement factory would feel impatient when he could
not get immediate support while struggling with the procedures of manufacturing different
raw materials that is required by the job. Further, without sufficient support, a child’s
misconception or inappropriate communication with adults would only disappoint him and
prevent him from active learning and interaction with other people.
It is reasonable to conclude that a child’s paid job experience would result in an adverse
impact on their health and active learning. However, recognizing the importance of children’s
learning and full awareness of responsibility, adults should encourage children to be involved
in some volunteering opportunities where they can meaningfully learn and interact with other
people with adequate care and encouragement.

Being school leavers, teenagers tend to be put in a quandary of whether or not they should
continue pursuing their study at higher level or seek for a job. While working environment
could benefit them to certain extent, it is advisable for them to enter a university or college.
The common questions of how to earn money as soon and as fast as possible seem to be
constantly spinning in modern youngsters’ minds. Hence, the world of occupations has
hooked their interest in a number of ways. With a job, they become more independent of
their families and fulfill their wishes with their own budgets. As an example, they could afford
more costly items, or go on more luxurious holidays. Moreover, thanks to an early working
start, teenagers are exposed to authentic working experiences and real-life skills that may
assist them to make strong headway as well as gain quicker chances for job promotion.
Despite several pluses of starting a job after high schools, my firm belief is that the
alternative of further study would offer more advantages. Tertiary settings enable students to
achieve academic qualifications which are pre-requisites of diverse professions, especially in
state –owned institutions. For instance, it seems unfeasible to become a teacher, doctor
without intellectual training. University graduates could thus acquire access to both better job
opportunities and higher salaries. Another thing is that they are more likely to be potential
candidates in competitive positions when owning university or college degrees.
For the aforementioned, there is much likelihood for teenagers to become successful in their
careers if university or college study is their next choice; notwithstanding the fact that they
could undoubtedly encounter fewer financial problems with an immediate jo
