(Sự hòa hợp giữa chủ ngữ và động từ)
I/. Trường hợp chia động từ ở số ít (is, Vs/es, has, does, was)
1. Danh từ số ít/ không đếm được
2. Danh từ số ít tận cùng bằng “s”: news (tin tức), mathematics (toán học), mumps (bệnh quai bị),
economics (kinh tế học), linguistics (ngôn ngữ học), politics (chính trị học), physics (vật lý học),

statistics (thống kê học), phonetics (ngữ âm học), the Philippines, the United States...
3. Mệnh đề bắt đầu bằng: that, where, when, what, to-V0, V-ing
Ex:

- To master English is not easy at all.
- That you get high marks doesn’t surprise us.

4. Tiền bạc (currency), đo lường (measure), khoảng cách (distance), thể tích, khối lượng (volume)
Ex:

- Five kilometers isn’t a long distance.

5. Đại từ bất định: every/ any/ no/ some + one/ thing/ body (Ex: everything, nobody...)
6. Những từ chỉ định:

1. REMEMBER, FORGET, REGRET: Với những động từ này, ta dùng:
+ V-ing: để diễn tả 1 sự việc đã xảy ra trong quá khứ
Ex: I remember locking the door before I went to bed last night.
+ To-V0: để diễn tả 1 sự việc chưa xảy ra hoặc sẽ xảy ra trong tương lai
Ex: Remember to lock the door before you go to bed.
2. STOP + V-ing: dừng hẳn việc đang làm
Ex: He stopped smoking 2 years ago. He doesn’t smoke now.
STOP + to-V0: dừng việc đang làm để làm việc khác
Ex: He stopped to smoke after working hard for a long time.

3. TRY + V-ing: thử làm việc gì
Ex: He tried sending her flowers, but it had no effect.
TRY + to-V0: cố gắng làm việc gì
Ex: He tried to explain to her, but she didn’t mind.
4. LIKE/ DISLIKE/ HATE chỉ sở thích/ sự không thích làm điều gì
+ V-ing: thói quen lâu dài
Ex: My father likes eating fish.
+ To-V0: thói quen tạm thời

5. ALLOW/ PERMIT + V-ing: cho phép làm việc gì
