Content
I. WARM – UP: 10’


* My friend comes to me and bursts into tears, says: “I have lost
my bike.”
I consoles her and tells my mother her situation as well as asks
my mother to help her buy a new one.
So, I have:
1. My friend says: “I have lost my bike.”
 My friend says to me that she has lost her bike.
2. My friend said: “I have lost my bike.”
 My friend said to me that she had lost her bike.
That is the Reported speech.
II. PRESENTATION: 25’
Pronouns:
- In reported speech, you often have to change the pronoun
depending on who says what.
Ex: She says, “My mum doesn’t have time today.”
 She says that her mum doesn’t have time that day.

Note:
- You do not change the tense if the introductory clause is in
Simple Present.
Ex: He says, “I speak English.”

III. PRACTICE 25’
Exercise turn into reported speech
1) John: "Mandy is at home."
John said that Mandy was at home.
2) Charles: "I didn't have time to do my homework."
Charles remarked that he hadn’t had time to do his
homework.
3) Susan: "I'm watching TV."
Susan said to me that she was watching TV.

4) Richard: "I am going to ride a skateboard."
Richard said to me that he was going to ride a skateboard.
5) Stephen and Claire: "We have cleaned the windows."
Stephen and Claire told me that they have cleaned the
windows.
6) “I won’t have enough time to finish this job.”
 He said that he would not have enough time to finish that
job.
7) “It’s been a long time since I had such a good meal.”
 She said that it had been a long time since she had had such
a good meal.
8) “The weather may get much worse tomorrow.”
He told us that the weather might get much worse the day
following.
9) “I think you should cut down on your smoking.”
 The doctor told me that I should cut down on my smoking.
10) “We’re going on holiday tomorrow.”

- T asks Ss to practice more at
home.
- Ss take notes.

 They said that they were going on holiday the day after.
