Writing Task 2 - Sample 15: The World's Economies

Even though globalization affects the world’s economies in a very positive
way, its negative side should not be forgotten. Discuss?

Although integrating the world brings numerous benefits, there are number of
drawbacks which may be concerned. This essay will assert that the benefits of
globalization outweigh problems.

Globalization plays a pivotal role in the world today in terms of improving both
domestic and international trade, developing information technology and
supporting transportation as well as communication. First of all, globalization has a
fundamentally beneficial influence on international imports and exports. For
instance, the WTO has allowed running businesses to easily cross over territorial
boundary lines. Consequently, a number of large companies appear and they tend
to provides various competitive products at reasonable prices. Moreover, when a
multinational group establishes a factory in a developing country, there will be
dramatic increases of the investment funds as well as job vacancies that create the
best interest of local societies. While finally, because of developing a
transportation network and communication among nations, there will be capability
to exchange ideas among people from different countries.

On the other hand, a more integrated world might affect adversely to societies. It

can be seen that large corporations prefer to invest billions of dollars to open
branches and representative offices in other developing nations rather than local
ones in order to take advantages of a cheaper workforce. Because of this,
unemployment rates in the more developed regions such Europe and the US may
be increase significantly as manufacturing bases in this areas close and shift
offshore, and that may lead to a rise in the crime rate and associated social

problems. In addition, young people tend to learn and copy fashion and culture
globally via the Internet that results in culture assimilation issues. Thus, it is hard
to keep a traditional and unique culture in a long run.

In conclusion, it is obvious that globalization brings huge benefits to both
industrial and developing nations more than drawbacks for economic development,
but looking at the social issues and consequences of this, it can be seen that there
are more negative effects. In a point of view that international originations should
control and minimise the negative effects and maximise the benefits.
