I.NINH BINH PROVINCE
Ninh Binh is located to the south of the Northern Delta, between the Red and Ma
rivers.
It is bordered by:

Area: 1,400 km²
Population: 898,459 people( 2009)
Ninh Binh was the first imperial capital of Vietnam from 968 to 1010 under the
Dinh, Le and Ly dynasties.
History:
In 968, King Dinh Tien Hoang throne capital at Hoa Lu and renamed Truong Chau
into Truong An.
In 1010 Ly Thai To moved the capital to Thang Long, and Ninh Binh was in
Truong An goverment. By the end of the Ly dynasty, it was called as Dai Hoang
Giang.
By the beginning of Tran dynasty, it changed to Truong Yen. In 1397( King Tran
Thuan Tong), changed Truong Yen to Thien Quan.
When belonging to Ming dynasty, recalled Truong Yen( belonged to the Kien
Binh).

In 1469, King Le Thanh Tong divided Truong Yen into Truong Yen and Thien
Quan( belonged to the Son Nam).
King Le Trung Hung called Thanh Hoa outside.


Tay Son Age and the beginning of Nguyen dynasty, Thanh Hoa outside included
Truong Yen( Yen Khang, Yen Mo, Gia Vien) and Thien Quan( Yen Hoa, Phung
Hoa, Lac Tho).
In 1806, changed Thanh Hoa outside to Thanh Binh.
In 1822, changed to Ninh Binh.
In 1829, added a new district- Kim Son.
In 1831, called as Ninh Binh province.
In Dong Khanh generation didn’t change. In the beginning of Thanh Thai cut Lac
Yen district into Hoa Binh province.
On 27th December 1975, Ninh Binh consolidated with Nam Dinh and Ha Nam into
Ha Nam Ninh province and then re-established on 12th August 1991. Ninh Binh
included 2 town: Ninh Binh, Tam Diep and 5 district: Gia Vien, Hoa Lu, Hoang
Long, Kim Son, Tam Diep.
On 21th November 1993, Hoang Long district renamed to Nho Quan district.
On 4th July 1994, Tam Diep district renamed to Yen Mo and re-established Yen
Khanh district from 10 communes of old Tam Diep district and 9 communes of
Kim Son district.
On 7th February 2007, Ninh Binh town became Ninh Binh city.
On 6th April 2015, Tam Diep town became Tam Diep city.
Economy:
Ninh Binh is where continued economic exchanges and cultural exchanges
between the Red River Delta region with North Central, between the northern
plains to the mountainous northwest. Highlights strength of Ninh Binh is the
industry of building materials and tourism.
-Industry

Ninh Binh has the potential and strength development of industry of buiding
materials with many cement production plant.
Nowaday, Ninh Binh has 7 industrial zones: Gian Khau, Khanh Phu, Tam Diep I,
Tam Diep II, Phuc Son, Khanh Cu, Kim Son.
Ninh Binh also has 22 industrial parks with an area of 880 ha.
-Agriculture
Ninh Binh has the advantage of developing the diverse compositions agriculture.
Intensive agricultural regions of the province: the Dong Giao farms specialize
industrial crops such as scented pineapple, the Kim Son plant seagrass to make


sedge mat, handicrafts, tiger prawns, seafood, Ninh Phuc flowwer village, Ninh
Son grow flowwer and vegetable.
- Trade and Services
Ninh Binh is located at the convergence of inter-regional transportation is very
convenient for the development of cargo traffic to other locals in the country.
Tourism infrastructure services: Ninh Binh can develop different types of tourism:
ecological - recreation, cultural - historical - spiritual, adventure tourism and
sports.

II.SERVEYING OF TOURISM SUPPLY CONDITION
ROUTE HA NOI- NINH BINH
1. Tourism resources in Ninh Binh
a. Natural resources
Geological and geomorphological values:
* Limestone recourses: Limestone mineral recource is the langest of Ninh Binh.
With the sizable limestone moutains, running northwest-southeast, via Nho Quan
and Gia Vien, Hoa Lu and Tam Diep, Yen Mo east to the sea, more than 40 km
long. On 12000 ha area, reserves of tens of billions of cubic meters of limestone
and dolomite tens of millions of tons. This is the major raw material source for the

manufacture of cement and building material and a number of other chemicals.
* Clay resources: Distribution scattered low hills Yen Son commune, Yen Binh,
Gia Vien District, Yen Mo, used to produce bricks and tiles and Mineral water
resources. Mineral water Ninh Binh good quality, concentrated mainly in Cuc
Phuong(Nho Quan) and Kenh Ga(Gia Vien) can be exploited for living and
travelling with large reserves.
* Kenh Ga mineral water with a high content of sodium chloride, muriate,
canxiclorua, magieclorua and bicarbonate. Water is colorless, odorless, taste
slightly acrid. Water temperature is 53 ° C stability.
* Peat resources: reserves of over 2 million tons distributed in the communes of
Gia Son, Son Ha(Nho Quan) Quang Son. Can be used to produce fertilizer for
production agriculture.

Some beautiful sights:
• Trang An:
There are 31 lakes, marshes connected by 48 caves.
In Trang An, there are many historic sites such as Trinh temple, Tu Tru temple,
Tran temple, Phu Khong,… and typical caves: Dia Linh cave, Nau Ruou Cave, Ba
Giot Cave, Boi Cave,….
• Tam Coc: is located in Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh. It is
called as Ha Long Bay on land or “ Nam Thien De Nhi Dong”( the second
beautiful cave in Viet Nam). Tam Coc means three caves. To travel Tam
Cocvisitors must travel by boat, down the stream Ngo Dong river.
• Van Long wetland:
Not only is the nature reserve, Van Long wetland is also attractive landscape.
• Cuc Phuong National Park
Cuc Phuong National Park is situated on the territory of the province of Ninh Binh,
120km far from Ha Noi to the South West. It is the largest & first national park of
Vietnam, one of the most important sites for biodiversity within the country. Cuc
Phuong is 25.000 ha large, known as a vast nature museum of fauna, rich flora on
limestone in Vietnam. Visitors can admire the thousand years old trees, the plants
survived from third century, many beautiful bird species. It is home for many
species of flora and fauna. There are 97 species of mammals; 319 species of birds;
36 reptilian species; 17 species of amphibians; 11 species of fish; 2,000 species of
vascular plants, and 1800 species of insects (most of them are not bite type). A
number of species in the park are listed on Vietnam Red Book as endangered
species (Many rare species such as the clouded leopard, fire leopard, bear, and
black gibbon).

Thung Nham resort:Thung Nham has area of 40 ha and is located in the wider

Western extemity Hoa Lu district. In Thung Nham resort, visitors can visit Vai Gioi
cave, But cave, Tien Ca cave, bird park,…and organize sailing tradition, swan
boats, sailboats,…
b. Humanities tourism resources:
* Festivals:
According to statistics,Ninh Binh has total 443 traditional festival, mostly
celebrated in spring. There are somes famous festivals:
• Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Festival (or Truong Yen Festival)
-The festival is held annually on the 6, 7, 8th of March of the lunar calendar in
Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu district with the purpose of commemorating the
two kings Dinh Tien Hoang and Le Dai Hanh.
-The festival includes two parts:
+Worshiping: includes water procession at Truong Yen water station located on
Hoang Long river and worship at the two temples of King Dinh and King Le.
+Entertainment activities: Performing "Co lau tap tran", competing in writing Han
script, playing chess, performing dragon dance, etc.
• Bai Dinh Pagoda Mountain Festival
-The festival is held annually on the 6th of January to the end of March lunar
calendar each yea in Sinh Duoc village, Gia Sinh commune, Gia Vien distric. The
organization offered incense ceremony, remembering the celebrity status as Ly
Quoc Su, Dinh Bo Linh, Cao Son God, Thuong Ngan Lord and Buddhist worship.
- Like other festivals, this one comprises two parts: worshiping and entertaining.
+ The worshiping includes the purification and commemoration of heroic martyrs.
+ The entertaining activities take about 3 days, including playing chess and
wrestling.
• Thai Vi temple festival
-The festival is organized every year from January 14 to March 17 in the village
lunar Van Lam Ninh Hai Commune , Hoa Lu district . This is a chance for people
to Ninh Binh and people throughout the country commemorate the merits of King
Tran - who has a huge population with water .

-Part celebration was conducted in two forms : processions and International . Thai
Vi temple procession in not only one group , which is on the union 's 30 communes
in Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province and in . After the procession is to share
health . Health is an important ritual was held before Temple.


• Dinh Long Temple festival
- The festival is held on two days : 6th and March 7th st ( lunar calendar ) in
temple aliquot of Gia Thanh commune , Gia Vien district .
- Part incense offering ceremony held Buddha and Buddhist ritual .
- Part association also organizes folk games such as lion dance , dragon dance ,
Chinese chess , calligraphy contest grapes ...
Historic sites:
* Relic cultural history Hoa Lu ancient capital is recognized as a special important
national site with 47 monuments: the Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang, Dinh
Tomb Kings, the Temple and the Tomb Kings Le Dai Hanh, the memorial of King
Ly Thai To Street, Princess Waving Golden temple, the temple god Quy Minh,
Controlling government, government Suddenly, dynamic Hoa Lu, Ma Yen
mountain, beer he arrived, Sao Khe river, covered East Wang, government Gardens
Thien Hoa Lu ancient temple system ...
* Historic Three Gorges line attached to the Tay Son dynasty landmarks there pass

* The system of church relics King Dinh Tien Hoang in Nho Quan and Gia Vien,
Hoa Lu in the northern province located in association with childhood anecdotes
and career to the throne, the capital of Hoa Lu ancient capital founded by King.
* System of King Le Dai Hanh temple in Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh City, Yen Mo, Kim
Son southern provinces and the capital tied up and the event where the king fought

the river passes through.
* System Kings temples in Yen Khanh Trieu Quang Phuc, Kim Son, Yen Mo
events associated with suicide in the estuary king of epiphany still help people.

Art architectural monuments:
-Temple of the King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh Temple buildings are
famous for stone carving art.
-Mountain Zone spiritual culture Bai Dinh Pagoda with 5 large buildings converge
many Asian record and Vietnam along the mountainside.


-Phat Diem cathedral populations with 9 churches with unique architecture
harmonious combination between tradition and modernity is like the capital of
Vietnam Catholic, Christian wonders attractive in Ninh Binh.
-Confucian spiritual monuments: Bich Dong Pagoda, Nhat Tru Pagoda, Temple
Dong Dac, Dich Long Pagoda, Ban Long pagoda, Bai Dinh Pagoda, the pagoda
Kim Ngan, Duyen pagoda Ninh, Non Nuoc Pagoda etc.
-The ancient architectural complex Co Vien Lau with typical old house in North
Delta.
The Pagodas in Ninh Binh:
Ninh Binh provinces has 354 temples, distributed as follows: Yen Mo: 81 Pagodas,
Yen Khanh: 57 Temples, Gia Vien: 50 Pagodas, Hoa Lu: 49 Temples, Nho Quan:
47 Temples, the temple city of Ninh Binh: 38, Kim Son: 24 pagodas, Tam Diep: 8
temples.
-Chronologic construction, mainly the temple of the Hoa Lu was built during the
Dinh Tien Hoang and Le Dai Hanh; many temples were built during the Tran and
Hau Le.

-Some famous temples such as:
+ Bai Dinh Pagoda is the largest pagoda in Ninh Binh and also the largest pagoda
in Vietnam.
+ Bich Dong Pagoda is dubbed "the second beautiful cave in Viet Nam"
+ Temple Dich Long dubbed "dynamic third South celestial".
+ Temple pagoda Coast Ninh coastal bridge was listed as 4 temples sacred coast
well known bridge Vietnam.
+ Nhat Tru pagoda is located in the ancient temple relics of Hoa Lu.
Traditional Villages:
According to the Department of Trade of Ninh Binh, the province has 60
traditional villages, and 36 villages are recognized by Ninh Binh province.

cultural tourism sources with 1499 cultural and historic relics. There are aslo 69
traditional trade villages and 443 festivals. The culture of food is unique and
attractive.

tourist at colection of 500 arhat statures on the hill on the right hand -side of Phap
Chu temple.the 500 arhat statures with the height of 2.3m.

2.SURVEY OF THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION
CONDITION FOR THE ROUTE HANOI-NINH BINH
To go to Ninh Binh provine, traveller can travel by motorbike, car, ship and train.
a.Road
There are many routes from Hanoi to Ninh Binh.
*Route 1(only for car)
It is 83 km.
Road route is Ha Noi( Phap Van, Hoang Mai) – highway Phap Van- Cau
Gie( Cau Gie, Phu Xuyen) – highway Cau Gie- Ninh Binh – Ninh Binh.
It takes us from 1h00 to 1h30 to get to Ninh Binh. This is the shortest route and
quality way.
If you choose this way, you have to pay road toll. There are 3 road toll stations in
route Hanoi- Ninh Binh (fee with coach 45 seats)

Second and third road toll station: 140.000VND/side


In this way, we go through Hoang Mai district, Thanh Tri district, Thuong Tin
district, Phu Xuyen district of Ha Noi, Duy Tien district, Phu Ly city, Thanh Liem
district of Ha Nam province, Y Yen district of Nam Dinh province. Then we reach
to Ninh Binh province.
*Route 2
It is 96 km.
Road route is Ha Noi( Giai Phong) – highway 1A – Phu Li, Ha Nam – Ninh Binh.
It takes us from 1h30 to 2h00 to get to Ninh Binh.
In this way, circulation speed of the vehicle is very slow.
You can stop for rest and toilet in Phu Li city.
In this way, we go straigh Giai Phong street to Thanh Tri district, Thuong Tin
district, Phu Xuyen district of Ha Noi, Dong Van town, Duy Tien distric, Phu Ly
city, Thanh Niem district of Ha Nam province and then Gia Vien district of Ninh
Binh province.
*Route 3
It is 120 km.
Road route is Ha Noi – highway 6 or Thang Long Avenue – highway 21 – Xuan
Mai town – Ho Chi Minh Trail – highway 12B – Cuc Phuong national park – Ninh
Binh.
It takes us from 2h30 to 3h to get to Ninh Binh.
In this road, it is few vehicle, deserted, smooth and flat.
In highway 6 through Ha Dong district, there is a overhead rail project under
construction.
In this way, we go through:

Thang Long Avenue: Nam Tu Liem district, Hoai Duc district, Quoc Oai district,
Thach That district.
Then we go through Xuan Mai town of Chuong My district of Ha Noi, luong Son
district, Lac Thuy district, Yen Thuy district of Hoa Binh province and Nho Quan
district of Ninh Binh province.

*Day river
Day river flows through Ha Noi, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh then end at Cua
Day in Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.

In the upstream, boats can not move. In the downstream from Van Dinh town, it is
easy for boats to move.
