Cool Extra Activity 6
1Read and circle the correct option.

Do you know that
people use elephants for
transportation? Well, it’s
true! In India, Indonesia
and Thailand, it's common!
People don't ride them
to school. Usually, they
use the elephants for
work in construction
or to cut down trees.
They're strong! Elephant riders
are called mahouts.
The mahouts give the
elephants commands
and they take care of the elephants.
They give them baths and food.
Elephants can eat 250 kilos of food
each day! In modern times, many
work elephants carry tourists. Work
elephants are usually gentle around people, but they are not always happy.
Free elephants, living in the forests, are happier than the work elephants. Some
organisations rescue work elephants so that they can live in a natural way.

1.People can use elephants at work / school.
2.Elephants are small / strong.
3. Work elephants / Elephant riders are called mahouts.
4.Elephants can eat / carry 250 kilos a day.
5.Now a lot of people use elephants to carry trees / tourists.
6.Work elephants are happier / sadder than free elephants.

5Read and answer the questions.
Frogs can swim and hear very well.
They can also jump long distances.
They cannot live in the sea. Frogs
prefer ponds and lakes because the
water doesn’t move very fast. They
use their long and sticky tongue to
catch insects and small animals. They
don’t need to drink water like other
animals because their skin absorbs it.

Snakes can live in any place. You
can find them in lakes, seas,
underground or even on a tree.
Some snakes eat animals like rabbits
and mice; others eat eggs. They don’t
eat very often. Some eat once a
week, others only eight or ten times
a year. Snakes can’t close their eyes.
They sleep with their eyes open.

1.Why do frogs live in ponds and lakes? Because the water doesn’t move very fast.
2.How do frogs catch their food?
3.What can frogs do?

4.Why don’t frogs drink water?

6Read and mark (3) the correct pictures.
Imagine that you are in the jungle and you see a
big animal behind the trees. Suddenly, it moves!
It's very big. It has got a long tail, a beak and three
horns. Don’t worry! It isn’t a carnivore.
All this is possible in the spectacular show Walking
with Dinosaurs. You can watch them walk and hear
them roar. Designers and scientists created 15 big
dinosaurs, including the carnivorous allosaurus, the
herbivorous brachiosaurus, and even a baby
T-Rex.
Check show times and buy tickets online at
www.walkwithdinos.com. Buy one ticket for an adult
and get one free child's ticket. Make sure you see
the return of the dinosaurs!
