REVISION FOR THE SECOND TERM
A. PRONUNCIATION:
1. Chú ý các phụ âm đã học trong SGK từ unit 9 đến unit 16
2. Lưu ý động từ tận cùng bằng ED có 3 cách phát âm:
+ Đối với động từ kết thúc bằng /t/, /d/ khi thêm “ed” thì phát âm là /id/
Eg: wanted, collected, needed, decided …
+ Đối với động từ kết thúc bằng /s/, /k/, /f/, /p/, /Σ/, /tΣ/ khi thêm “ed” được phát âm là /t/
Eg” stopped, danced, cooked, laughed, watched, washed
+ Đối với động từ kết thúc bằng các phụ âm còn lại và các nguyên âm, khi thêm “ed’ được phát âm là /d/
Eg: played, enjoyed, cleaned, arrived…
3. Động từ/ Danh từ kết thúc bằng “s” có 2 cách phát âm:
+ Động từ/ Danh từ kết thúc bằng /t/, /k/, /f/, /p/, /Τ/, khi thêm “s’ sẽ phát âm là /s/
Eg: stops, books, roofs, cuts …
+ Động từ kết thúc bằng các phụ âm còn lại và các nguyên âm, khi thêm “s” phát âm là /z/
Eg: enjoys, plays, dogs, pens, tables…
B. GRAMMAR:
I. Conditional sentences (If sentences):

Câu điều kiện loại 2 diễn tả điều kiện không có thật ở hiện tại và cũng khó có thể xảy ra trong tương lai

Use
Câu điều kiện loại 3 diễn tả một điều kiện không có thật ở quá khứ
He would have passed the exam if he had studied hard.
I didn’t go to school. If I had gone to school, I would have met my classmates.

Passive: A new bridge has been built across the river (by them).
- Active: Mai was watching a cartoon at 8 o’clock last night.
Passive: A cartoon was being watched by Mai at 8 o’clock last night.
III/ to + infinitive: Động từ nguyên mẫu có to
Ex: I listen to classical music to feel relaxed.
(I listen to classical music to feel/ in order to feel/ so as to feel relaxed).
- What do you listen to classical for?
- Dùng to + infinitive để chỉ mục đích
IV/ Wh- questions:

1. Với động từ “to be” : Wh- + be + S (+ …)?
Ex: What is the time? – It’s 7.
2. Với động từ khuyết thiếu (modal verbs): can, could, must, will, could, would, shall, should, …
Wh + modal verb + S + V + …?
Ex: How many languages can you speak?
How can you swim?
3. Đối với động từ thường: Wh + Trợ động từ + S + V + …?
Ex: Where do you live?
Why didn’t you go to school yesterday?
4. Lưu ý: Khi từ để hỏi làm chủ ngữ: Wh + V + …?
Ex: Who is standing by the window?
Who invented the telephone?
V. Adjective of attitude: Tính từ chỉ thái độ
Ex: I am interested in the film.
The film made me interested.
Ex: I find the film very interesting.
The film is very interesting.
It is an interesting film.
VI. It was not until…… that ……: Mãi đến khi …. thì…..
Dùng để nhấn mạnh thời điểm bắt đầu một sự việc nào đó
It was not until + time/ S + V2/ed…… that + S + V2/ed……
Ex: She wasn’t allowed to open her presents until her birthday
→ It was not until her birthday that she was allowed to open her present.
Ex: He didn’t know how to swim until he was 30.
→ It was not until he was 30 that he knew how to swim.
VII. Mạo từ a, an, the:
1. A/ AN: mạo từ không xác định
* a/ an đặt trước danh từ không xác định só ít:
- a + danh từ số ít bắt đầu bằng 1 phụ âm

- an + danh từ số ít bắt đầu bằng một nguyên âm hoặc trước âm “h” câm: an hour, an honest man
Mạo từ không xác định được dùng:
- Để chỉ một cá thể thuộc 1 nghề nghiệp, quốc gia hay tôn giáo nào đó:
Eg: I am a worker Peter is an Irishman.
- Dùng với nghĩa một : I have a daughter and a son
- Dùng trong các từ ngữ chỉ sự đo lường: a couple (một cặp), a dozen (một tá), a lot of (nhiều)…
2. Mạo từ xác định : the
* The + danh từ số ít hoặc số nhiều. The chỉ ra danh từ đó đã xác định hay là một thành viên cụ thể của 1 nhóm
Eg: Tom sat down on a chair. ( có thể là một cái ghế trong phòng)
Tom sat down on the chair nearest the door. ( một cái ghế cụ thể - gần cửa nhất)
* Không dùng “the” với danh từ không đếm được nếu danh từ đó chỉ một cái gì chung chung:
Eg: Tea is a popular drink in Vietnam. (Trà là nước uống phổ biến ở Việt Nam)
Coffee is exported to many countries. (Cà phên được xuất khẩu tới nhiều nước)
* Dùng “the” với danh từ không đếm được nếu danh từ đó được xác định cụ thể hơn bởi một ngữ hay mệnh đề
Eg: The tea in my cup is too hot to drink.
VIII. will vs. be going to:
1. be going to: diễn tả một dự định
Ex: A: Why are you turning on the TV?
B: I’m going to watch the news.
2. Will: diễn tả một quyết định đưa ra vào lúc nói, một sự phỏng đoán, một lời đề nghị
Ex: A: I want to buy this book but I don’t have enough money.
B: I’ll lend you some.
Ex: You are working very hard. I am sure you will pass this exam easily.
Ex: A: It’s very cold.
B: I’ll close the windows.
IX. Relative clauses:
1. Defining relative clauses: Mệnh đề quan hệ xác định (WHO, WHOM, WHICH, THAT)
Ex: I saw the girl. She helped us last week.
→ I saw the girl who/that helped us last week.
Ex: The book is very interesting. I bought it last week.

→The book which/ that I bought last week is very interesting.
2. Non-defining relative clauses: Mệnh đề quan hệ không xác định (WHO, WHOM, WHICH)
Ex: My father is a doctor. He is fifty years old.

→ My father, who is fifty years old, is a doctor.
Ex: New York is a large harbour. It is ice-free in all seasons.
→ New York, which is ice-free in all seasons, is a large harbour.
X. Although/ Though vs. In spite of/ Despite:
1. Although/ Though:
Although/ Though + S + V ……., S + V …….( S + V …….although/ though + S + V …….)
Ex: Although New York is not the capital of the USA, it is the centre of global finance.
(New York is the centre of global finance although it is not the capital of the USA).
2. In spite of/ Despite:
In spite of/ Despite + N/ V-ing…, S + V ….( S + V…….. in spite of/ despite + N/ V-ing…….)
Ex: In spite of not being the capital of the USA, New York is the centre of global finance.
(New York is the centre of global finance in spite of not being the capital of the USA).
Ex: Despite his age, he works extremely hard.
(He works extremely hard despite his age).

Read about Peter’s story carefully and answer the questions below.
Uri Geller was born in 1946. When he was only three, he was aware that he had an amazing ability. In 1969 he gave his first
performance in a school. He gently rubbed a spoon with his fingers, and it began to bend. Three years later he drove a car blindfolded
through the crowded streets of Munich. Later Uri Geller appeared on television in Britain in front of small studio audience of scientists. He
bent spoons and broke metal objects simply by touching them gently with his fingers. He also drew pictures of hidden objects. After the
programme, however, there were hundreds of telephone calls. People reported that spoons in their homes bent during the performance. Metal
objects broke, and watches which had stopped many years ago suddenly started to go again.
