Dan: Hi, Carol. How are you?
Carol: Dan? Wow! I can’t believe you’re calling me from Chile! How is it there?
Dan: It’s great. There are amazing things to see in Santiago and the food is delicious.
Carol: Are there many good restaurants?
Dan: Well, actually, we have street food every day. Santiago is the city to visit for street food.
Carol: That’s funny, because my father is from Peru and according to him, Lima is famous for its
street
food.
Dan: What type of street food is there in Peru?
Carol: There are many things. My father often talks about the chicken.
Dan: Chicken is popular in Chile, too.
Carol: What about papa rellena? Have they got that in Chile?
Dan: What’s papa rellena?
Carol: It’s potato balls with meat, eggs and vegetables in them.
Dan: Meat, eggs and vegetables inside of potatoes? Oh, that’s right. Yes, they’ve got those in Chile.
My parents like them, but I’m not crazy about them. I like the spaghetti with beans.
Carol:

Spaghetti with beans? Yuck! I hate beans.

Dan: Well, people love beans in Chile. They also eat bean soup, but that’s in the winter. No one
eats
soup in the summer.
Carol: Summer? But it’s January – it’s winter, remember?
Dan: It’s winter in England, Carol, but the seasons are different in Chile. It’s summer here, and it’s
definitely not good weather for bean soup!
