DESCRIPTION
The main purpose of this assignment is to help students discover and be familiar with some
contemporary issues in marketing. The assignment evaluates students’ ability in recognising and
identifying these marketing issues by analysing practical data and real-world cases of their choice.
Through this activity, the students are expected to increase information search skill and problem
analysis skill.
First, each student group is required to select a topic from the following list.
1. Marketing in the economic downturn/ Marketing to the bottom of the pyramid
2. International marketing/ Global marketing
3. Electronic marketing (e-Marketing)
4. Sustainable marketing/ Ethical marketing/ Social marketing
5. Not-for-profit marketing
Your task is writing up a report to analyse your chosen topic, in which you can refer to any theories
or concepts studied in class accompanied by real-world examples. The analysis can be either at a
broad/general or narrow/detail level. Then, you are required to present your result in front of class.

EVALUATION CRITERIA
The assessment of this assignment includes two components: a written report (60%) and presentation
(40%). Students will be marked in accordance with the following criteria and marking guide.

Quality of argument/justification: formulation of a coherent, persuasive and logical

Expression and presentation: (1) clarity, concision; (2) structure, style, presentation,

Font: Time New Roman



Font size: 12




Spacing: before 6pt, after 6pt, multiple 1.3 line.

Component 2: Presentation (40%)
Each group has 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion session. The presentation is
based upon your written report. However try to keep it concise and focused with major points and
recommendations. Creativity is highly recommended. The presentation will be evaluated on three
main criteria: Formality, Content and Criticism.
