I. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
I.1. The benefits of the Internet
1.
The Internet is a global information system, which is commonly used because it
brings many benefits to everyone. Firstly, this global network is an unlimited source
of useful information and it's easy to acquire information that you desire by searching
through Google, Facebook or other search engines. Also, we can keep ourselves up-to-date
with latest news of the world on the Internet. Furthermore, the Internet can turn us into
global citizens; we can keep in touch with our foreign friends by going online for video
chats or sending email messages. Another benefit of the Internet is entertainment. For
example, after long study hours at school, I usually chill out by listening to music,
playing games or catching movies on my favourite websites. There are many other
sources of entertainment the Internet provides that can make our lives easier and happier.
To sum up, the Internet is really advantageous to each and everyone of us.

There are a wide range of advantages to using the Internet. Firstly, the Internet
endows not only students but also teachers with instant access to information on
almost all subjects. They can be exposed to a world of essential information by surfing
the Internet, helping them in self-study and self-reliant terms. Furthermore, shops and
other services are now on offer online. For example, goods and other services can be
bought from home rather than from shops, which makes trading more convenient than
ever before. Also, the internet has made people‟s communication easier. Instead of
posting a hand letter, which takes several days, they can keep in touch with their
families and friends using emails or instant messenger services like Facebook or Zalo

just within some seconds. In conclusion, the Internet has a great variety of benefits
and plays a crucially important part in our life today. (146 words)

Internet has a profound influence on my life for a wide range of reasons. First of all,
internet is a store of useful and free information, which helps me a lot with my study.
For example, I can study math, literature, English and so on by watching online
lessons on Youtube or Facebook pages without having to go to extra classes.
Moreover, entertainment is another big benefit of the internet to me. Not only can I
watch movies, listen to music, but also play a lot of interesting games for free after
hard-working days at school. Last but not least, internet is an effective means of
communication. Since I used the internet, I have had more friends, both local and
international, who always encourage me and help me whenever I am in trouble. To
summarize, internet is a wonderful invention for people in general and for me in
particular. (149 words)

they can also make you more active. To illustrate, it can lower your chance of getting a
serious illness such as heart attack or high blood pressure. Furthermore, it is commonly
believed that enjoying outdoor sports can help you relieve stress. Personally, after long
study hours at school I usually ask my friends for a badminton match, which is super fun
and pleases me a lot. On top of that, there are some sports such as football, volleyball or
basketball that can help you develop durability, quickness and at the same time teach
you how to improve team spirit and group work skills. To sum up, playing sports is

It is commonly believed that doing exercises benefits us in three main ways.
Firstly and most importantly, exercises help us maintain good health. Taking
exercises on a daily basis, we can become stronger physically and at the same time
get our immune system boosted. Secondly, doing exercises is very relaxing. To
take a personal example, I usually work out for half an hour in the afternoon after
leaving school, and exercises really recharge my batteries and put my mind at ease
after long study hours. Last but not least, we can feel more confident of ourselves
if we do exercises frequently. That is because not only do exercises enhance our

7. The positive effects of a sporting activity you do
Taking a salsa dance class has had many positive effects on my life. One of the first
effects I noticed was the physical one. As a result of taking this class, I am in much
better shape. For example, my posture and coordination are better because salsa
dancing requires a lot of physical energy and burns a lot of calories. Another effect is
that I have more self-confidence. For instance, my social skills have improved and I
have become more outgoing, and I had made a lot more new friends. Finally, that salsa
class makes me much happier. The fact is that I am engaged to marry a great guy that
I met in the class, which leads to the biggest effect on my life. In conclusion, taking
a salsa dance class has greatly affected my life. (137 words)

II.3. Learning English
8. The benefits of learning English
In today‟s world, learning English brings many benefits to its learners. Firstly, English
is the global second language, that is to say it is used in almost all parts of the world.
Mastering this language could help us in terms of communicating with many others in
such English-speaking countries as Australia and America. Furthermore, having good
knowledge of the English language is one of the fundamental prerequisites in job
recruitment. In the current overwhelmingly job market, having a profound
understanding about this language would endow young students with ultimate
advantages over other peer candidates. Also, learning English serves as one of the
basic factors that might help us in being admitted to prestigious universities in the
world such as Oxford and Harvard, as English is attached to great importance
currently. In conclusion, for the aforementioned reasons, it can be conceded that there

II.4. Skills needed to be taught at school
9. The modern life has now become so uncontrollable that some necessary skills
should be taught at school. Initially, it is indispensable that manners be taught by
schools in this society. For example, students should be taught how to behave well or
say “please” or „thank you” in order not to cause offense, and to get on with others.
Second, they have to be taught to become independent people. When students grow
up and have to live far away from their family, they need to be independent to live by
themselves without any difficulty. Besides, self-confidence is also an essential skill to

be taught. Being confident, students can make presentations in front of the audiences,
which can help them create chances for being successful in life. In brief, students at
school should be taught not only manners but also independence and self-confidence.

II. 5. ONLINE SHOPPING
10. ADVANTAGES OF ONLINE SHOPPING
Online shopping has become more and more popular for a number of benefits. First,
online shopping is very convenient because it helps buyers save time and energy,
especially for the ones who are too busy to shop in stores. Just by a click, they can buy
anything and whenever they want. Furthermore, buyers can get information about the
size, material, origin or even price of the products they want. Hence, they can make a
decision to buy the best goods for their need. Last but not least, online shopping is
quite cheap. For vendors, online shopping allows them to reduce costs with regard to
employing staff or paying for the rents. Therefore, the price of the products is also
lower than shopping in the supermarket or a store. All in all, it cannot be denied that
online shopping is very beneficial in different ways. (144 words)

II.5. Reasons:
11. Future job

Choosing a satisfactory job can be a daunting prospect to almost all people. I
personally opt to become an interpreter as my future job in view of several reasons.
Firstly, although I concede that it is demanding and challenging to become a
professional interpreter, I believe that being exposed to a world of diverse languages
would endow me with countless opportunities to enhance my expressive capacity and
help me convey my meaning in other languages better. More importantly, by talking
with foreigners can I have a multidimensional glimpse into a great variety of other
cultures. Also, I choose to be an interpreter in the hope that I can travel to different
parts of the world such as Europe and Africa to broaden my horizon and get amazing
experiences. To conclude, with hard work and determination, I hope to be able to
achieve my ultimate goals.

II.6. CAUSES
12. Causes of Traffic Congestion in big cities in Vietnam
There are some factors leading to traffic jams in big cities in Vietnam. To begin
with, most city dwellers and commuters travel to work at the same time using their
personal vehicles rather than using public transport, which causes daily congestion

during rush hours. It has been reported there are over 1000 cars and other means of
transportation circulating in some urban areas in Vietnam every day. Furthermore,
road space and car parks are insufficient and used inefficiently, making it difficult for
commuters and traffic jams are therefore inevitable. Finally, the increased traffic jams
are also due to the citizen‟s poor awareness. For example, many traffic participants
ignore the traffic law by continuing to drive despite the red light, or they drive on the
lanes for other vehicles or on the pavements to avoid getting stuck. In conclusion,
traffic congestion is caused by various reasons. Hopefully, prompt actions would be
taken to deal with this worrying problem. (157 words)

II.7. EFFECTS
13. Effects of overcrowding in big cities
The overcrowded city has drawn major public attention to its adverse impacts on
society. Firstly, a dense crowd would lead to a great variety of such social evils as
theft or robbery. In Ho Chi Minh City, for example, pickpockets often move into
crowds to steal money of hundreds of people everyday. Furthermore, too many
people flocking in one place to live could result in environmental deterioration. They
tend to dump excessive chemical waste into the water and release exhaust fumes into
the air, aggravating the environmental problem. Finally, overcrowding causes the lack
of spaces both for housing, playing and socializing. For instance, a lot of people have
to live in extremely confined spaces, which make it difficult for them to have some
personal privacy. In conclusion, overcrowding in big cities brings great troubles
and therefore should be addressed urgently.

14. The consequences of cheating at school
Cheating in school has caused a lot of serious consequences for students. First and
foremost, students who are caught cheating will be punished in different ways such as
being placed on probation or even being expelled from school, which depends on their
forms of cheating. Moreover, cheating can become a habit when it is repeatedly
successful, resulting in students‟ increasing cases of dishonesty. This effect also
creates students‟ lack of learning, which occurs when they spend more time focusing
on how they cheat on their examinations instead of studying to master the material.
Furthermore, cheaters will develop a bad reputation among teachers, parents, and
even other students, so they may find it difficult to maintain a positive relationship
with school administrators. In general, cheating at school has many negative effects
on students; therefor, it must be prevented before it becomes an incurable
phenomenon. (143 words)

Plagiarism in school, a kind of cheating, has a lot of serious consequences on
plagiarists. Firstly, students who are caught plagiarizing will be punished in different
ways depending on the nature of mistake and the number of times they commit it. The
punishments can vary from failure in examinations, academic probation, and
compensation for loss of profit of the originator or even expulsion from school.
Moreover, plagiarism makes a long-term effect on the rest of plagiarists‟ lives. Those
will develop a bad reputation among teachers, parents, and even other students, so they
may find it difficult to maintain a positive relationship with school administrators.
They will also face a lot of problems of looking for jobs due to the prejudice against
them regardless of their amendment. All in all, because of plagiarism‟s potential
threats to the quality of education, it is advisable to take some appropriate measures to
avoid this offense. (151 words)

18. Ways to improve the environmental pollution
Environment-related issues have posed a threat on the society and should be addressed
urgently. To begin with, individual awareness should be better. For example, each
citizen should not throw trash on the streets or into the river and they need to save
energy by turning off lights, replacing inefficient bulbs with low-power ones, and not
leaving equipment on standby. Furthermore, punishments should be imposed on
emissions of pollutants to avert this intense environmental degradation. For instance,
those who are dumping chemical and poisonous waste, which might take a long time
to decompose, into the environment illegally should be fined in cash for their actions.
Moreover, more research into technological advancement should be done. It is
advisable that more modern treatment be used to treat organic waste, including
domestic and commercial food waste. In conclusion, if those effective measures were
taken, our environment could be saved. (146 words)

III. COMPARE & CONTRASST
19.

The differences between traditional and modern families in Vietnam

A traditional Vietnamese family can be distinguished from a modern one in three main
ways. Firstly, a traditional family is an extended family where there is more than one
generation living together under one roof. But now a modern family is usually a nuclear
family, consisting of only parents and one to two children. Furthermore, in a traditional
family, the father takes all the responsibility for the whole family. In other words, he
works and earns money to support the whole family, while the women tasks are within
the house such as bearing children and doing all housework. Now in a modern family both
husband and wife are equal; they share household chores and make money together.
Finally, as members in a nuclear family are more tightly knit, they are more willing to
build up a healthy family life. In summary, above are some differences between a
traditional Vietnamese family and a modern one.

A gift you’ve received recently

Yesterday, a new friend I've just met gave me a very valuable gift, the best-selling book in
the world with over one billion copies sold; it is called "the Bibles". Last afternoon, a
friend of mine who is not so good at English asked me out to help him communicate

with Catherine, an American girl. Catherine is cute, adorable, and she learns in a
Christian school, so our conversation was around the topic of Jesus. That was a great talk,
and before saying goodbye, she gave both of us a small copy of "the Bibles". We were
very excited and eager to read it then! The book has a nice blue cover and is already
translated into Vietnamese. I'm going to spend this whole night enjoying the book, the
presence of God and the holy spirit. Many thanks
to Catherine for this fabulous present!

21. Describe a best friend who can be a successful person in the future
My friend – Ngoc – is very good at English and economics and she has a lot of
reasons to become a good businesswoman in the future. First of all, Ngoc is very
friendly and humorous. She likes working in a group and talking with others.
Moreover, she always listens to others‟ ideas carefully, then gives her own situation
and tries to find out the best idea. Second, Ngoc is very active and has a strong
character. She often takes risks with many daring projects and tries her best to finish
all of them. Finally, Ngoc is a little bit ambitious. She wants to make lots of money in
spite of having less free time. She also wants to have flexible schedule because
sometimes she likes working outdoors to help her company promote their products.
For all these reason, I think Ngoc will be an amazing and successful

22. My best friend
If I were asked to describe a person who has a great influence on me, I would talk
about one of my best friends, Trung whom I really admire because he is friendly and
modest. First, Trung is very friendly. I remember meeting him when I came to his
English club for the first time and he is one of the leaders in that club. At that time, I
was shy and I almost did nothing but stood there watching around when everyone was
having fun. Suddenly he came to my seat and asked me to join with him. Since then,
he has helped me to be good at English and nowadays, I am one of the leaders in this
English club. Beside his friendliness, Trung is also a modest man. He graduated from
Foreign Trade University but he is never proud of them and he always wants to
improve his skills. He taught us his experiences about learning and so on.. All in all,
Iam glad to have Trung as my friend and Iam sure we will always be close friends.

23. A person in your family you love
My father is the one whom I really love because of his character. To begin with, my

father is very hard-working. He was born in the countryside in a poor family, but he
went to Hanoi to earn money and study instead of staying in the countryside to work as
a famer. For a long time, he underwent a lot of hardship such as poverty, living alone
in the war but he has always tried his hard. Therefore, he becomes a grand actor in his
workplace now. Furthermore, he is also a thoughtful father who knows how to
balance between his work and family, so he remembers all special events of my family
and spends enough time for us. For those reasons, I admire my father so much. I hope
that I will become a person like him in the future as he is a really good example for me

Among members in my family, my mother is the one to whom I feel closest. Her name
is Lien. She is a beautiful middle-aged woman with a round-shaped face, long black hair
and a graceful smile. She works as an English teacher, and not only did she teach me
English, but she also provided me with a right moral compass and educated me to treat
everyone suitably. She is a very protective, though not indulgent parent, always fearing for
her children's security and giving us all of whatever is necessary for our life. Also, as a
kind-hearted lady, she often invites the neighbor kids around, gives them candies and
lets us play together. She is a role model on the way to care for others and I've always
tried to be as kind as her. To sum up, I love my mother so much, and without her, I
