In a shabby town in Washington, there was a studio of two

young female artists: Sue and Johnsy.
They lived above Mr. Berhman’s apartment, an old artist who
was trying to create a masterpiece for his own.


Unfortunately, Johnsy had a pneumonia and her life lasted for a
few days.
Doctor could not help her because she lost all her faith in life.


Every day, Johnsy looked out of the window and counted every
leaf that still clung on the ivy.
She believed that when the last leaf fell down, she would die.


After hearing about Johnsy, Mr. Behrman was extremely
angry and anxious.


But it did not.

Day by day, Johnsy waited for the last leaf falling down.
It was the thing that made her find the faith in life.


In the storming night when the
last leaf fell down, Mr. Behrman
created a masterpiece…

Two days later, he passed away because of the serious pneumonia…


“The last leaf”


The short story is actually an excellent masterpiece which is full
of artistic and humane value. Moreover, it is really a hard-toforget story, especially the picture "the last leaf" by Mr.
Berhman. The leaf is not only a work of art with the realistic
details, which made Johnsy believe, but also the knot of all the
sorrow and worries of Johnsy, helped her regain belief and be
stronger to live. The masterpiece is also an evidence of a fullof-love heart of the artist who spent his whole life on Art. The
story brought us a truth:

"A heart to give is the most perfect
heart"
