QUY TẮC ĐÁNH DẤU TRỌNG ÂM
Đa số các động từ 2 âm tiết thì trọng âm chính nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 2 :
Ngoại trừ : ‘offer, ‘happen , ‘answer , ‘enter , ‘listen , ‘open, ‘finish, ‘study,
‘follow, ‘narrow...
Đa số các danh từ và tính từ 2 âm tiết thì trọng âm chính nhấn vào âm
tiết thứ 1
Ngoại trừ : ma’chine mis’take a’lone a’sleep .....
Danh từ ghép thường có trọng âm chính nhấn vào âm tiết 1 :
Tính từ ghép thường có trọng âm chính nhấn vào từ thứ 1, nhưng nếu
tính từ ghép mà từ đầu tiên là tính từ hay trạng từ (Adjective or adverb) hoặc
kết thúc bằng đuôi - ED thì trọng âm chính lại nhấn ở từ thứ 2 . Tương tự động
từ ghép và trạng từ ghép có trọng âm chính nhấn vào từ thứ 2 :
Example :
‘home - sick ‘air- sick
‘lighting- fast ,

‘praiseworthy

‘water- proof ‘trustworthy

Nhưng :
bad- ‘temper
well – ‘done

Các từ kết thúc bằng các đuôi : how, what, where, .... thì trọng âm
chính nhấn vào vần 1 :

Các từ 2 âm tiết bắt đầu bằng A thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 2 :
Again , awake , alive ….
Các từ tận cùng bằng các đuôi ,
+ “y”, “ate” : trọng âm là thứ 3 từ dưới lên tính từ nó
( nếu là từ có 2 âm tiết thì trọng âm trước )


Các từ tận cùng bằng đuôi - ade, - ee, - ese, - eer, - ette, - oo, -oon , ain (chỉ động từ), -esque,- isque, -aire ,-mental, -ever, - self thì trọng âm nhấn
ở chính các đuôi này :

các từ chỉ số luợng :
+ kết thúc bằng đuôi “ teen” : trọng âm rơi vào đuôi đó luôn
+ kết thúc bằng đuôi “ ty” : trọng âm trước nó
