(READING)
I. Aim
- Improve reading skills and gain some new words and structures from reading text
II. Objectives
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
+ develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas, guessing meaning in
context and identifying the sequence of events;
+ understand the text and express their ideas about past experiences.
III. Materials
Textbook, pictures and handouts.
IV. Anticipated problems
Ss may not finish the discussion task because of limited time.

WARM – UP
Competition game – Hang man
- T introduces the game: T chooses a secret word
“Experience”: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (10 letters).
- Divide the class into two big teams: Team A & Team B
- Guide Ss to play the game according to the rule set before.
- Suggest the letters of the word for Ss’ guessing.
- Ask Ss to guess the letters in the word. If Ss guess the letter


that is not the word, T makes a line according to the order in
the drawing.
- The group with 8 times of wrong guessing will loose the
game; and then T gives the answer. T leads to the lesson.

13’ PRE-READING
- Get Ss to work in pairs and try to guess what is happening in
each of the pictures in the text book
- Get Ss to put the pictures in the order that they think is most
appropriate.
- Call on some pairs to present their ideas but should not
correct them.
- T may elicit their answers by asking questions and giving
prompts:
Eg: What can you see in picture A? What do you think might be
relationship between the girl and the man? What do you see on
the table? Whose money do you think it is? Why? Etc.

WHILE-READING
Pre-teaching vocabulary:
- make a fuss about St (exp): become angry or excited about St
and complain.
- sneaky (a, trans): How do you say ‘vung trom, len lut’ in
English?

- glance at St/So (v, mime): ‘what am I doing?’?
- idol (n, situation): He is so famous that he has become an
____ of teenagers.

Set the scene: You are going to read a story in which a girl’s
telling about her most embarrassing situation. Then you do the
task that follow.
TASK 1:
- Run through the task to make sure Ss understand what they
are going to do.
- Get Ss to read the passage silently and then do the task 1.
- Call on Ss to read or write out the answers on board:
1. glanced 2. making a fuss 3. embarrassing 4.
idols 5. sneaky
TASK 2:
- Get Ss to read the text silently a gain and then with peer work
out the sequence of the pictures given on page 22 a gain, this
time based on the information in the text.
- Call on a student to give and explain his/ her answer.
- Check with the class. Expected answers: 1. picture d; 2.
picture b; 3. picture c; 4. picture f; 5. picture e; 6. picture a
TASK 3:
- Guide Ss to
+ Skim the five questions to understand them;
+ Find out and pay attention to key word (eg, wish in (1));
+ Then go back to the passage to find the key words which can
help answer the questions.

- Get Ss to check their answers with their peers.
- Call on some Ss to give the answers and explain them.

- Ask Ss to work in groups of 3 or 4 and discuss the questions
- go around to help and check
- Give corrective feedback
* Suggested answers:
1, She might feel embarrassed and guilty/ ashamed because
that was not her money.
2, Perhaps the girl could place a notice on a local newspaper to
apologize the boy and contact him to give him the money
back/ Perhaps the girl might want to tell her father the truth
and ask him for help/ Perhaps the girl could come to the police

station, tell the police the truth and ask them for help/ Maybe
the girl could get on the same bus the next day and look for the
boy to return him the money, etc.
