(Present Continuous Tense)
I. ĐỊNH NGHĨA
Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn diễn tả hành động đang xảy ra tại thời điểm hiện tại. Dự định trong tương lai
gần.

S + is/ am/ are + V –
ing
Ex:

I am reading this book now.
She is driving to work.
You are learning English now.
They are playing football at the
moment.
The dog is barking.

Is/ Am/ Are + S + V –
ing ?
Ex:

- Are they playing football?
- Is she crying at the moment?
- Are you doing anything tonight?

- Is it raining now?

WH – + is/ am/ are + S + V –
ing ?

S + is/ am/ are + not +V – ing
Ex:

She isn’t driving to work today.
You aren’t learning Maths now.
It isn’t raining today.

- What are you doing?
- Where is he going?
- What is she singing?
- What language are you speaking?

CÁCH DÙNG

Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn diễn tả hành động đang xảy ra tại thời điểm hiện tại.
What are you doing?
She's reading in the garden.
They're not standing in the rain.

Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn diễn tả hành động xảy ra xung quanh thời điểm hiện tại.
I'm reading "The Surgeon's Mate" by Patrick O'Brian.
Whose account are you working on?
She's studying hard for her final exam.

Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn diễn tả một kế hoạch/ sắp xếp trong tương lai.
We're having leftovers this evening.
What are you doing tomorrow afternoon?
She isn't coming on Friday.



Các từ, cụm từ đi kèm:

at the moment, now, today, this week, this month, tomorrow, next week (for future
arrangements ), currently…


LƯU Ý:
Khi thêm ING ngay đằng sau động từ nguyên mẫu, cần nhớ vài quy tắc sau:
1. Nếu động từ tận cùng bằng 1 chữ cái E, bỏ E đi rồi mới thêm ING

live → living,
hope → hoping
Nếu động từ tận cùng bằng 2 chữ cái E, thêm ING bình thường, không bỏ E
see → seeing
Nếu động từ tận cùng bằng IE, đổi IE thành Y rồi mới thêm ING
Die→ dying,
lie → lying,
tie → tying .
Nếu động từ đơn âm tận cùng bằng 1 và chỉ 1 trong 5 nguyên âm (A, E, I, O, U) với một
và chỉ một phụ âm, ta viết phụ âm đó thêm 1 lần nữa rồi mới thêm ING.
Ex: stop → stopping, run → running,
begin → beginning,
prefer →
preferring.
5. Các động từ ngoài các quy tắc trên ta thêm ING bình thường.
