Period 55 Lesson 1 : Getting started
Listen and read
I. Aim :
By the end of the lesson students will be able to know :
- How to give first – aid to emergency situations.
- The content of the lesson and how to give first – aid instructions.
- Understand the modal request sentences , offer sentences and promise sentences.
II. Objective
* Review : - Request : Can you tell me what happened?
- Offer : Will you hurry, please?
* Promise : I promise I'll keep her awake.
* Vocabulary : emergency , ambulance , wound , conscious , pressure.
* Skill : Practice listening, reading , speaking and writing English
III. Teaching aid.
Text book , slide projector , cellophanes , Power Point , Violet , pictures , English 8
disk ( VCD ) of Ministry of Education and Training.

- Let Ss look at the pictures carefully in 10 seconds.
T: Do you like playing a game?
- I have a game for you. It’s a Matching .
T: Do you like it?
- Divide class in to 2 groups . One student in each group
go to the board and match the things ( 1,2,3,4 ) with the


situations ( a,b,c,d )
- Look at the picture
- Ss Answer

-Call a S from each group to play the game.
- Whole class count from 1 to 5
- T comments the matching.
- Let Ss read aloud the names of the things in column A.
T: These are the things which are used for first- aid. Now
work in 4 groups to answer the questions .
* What would you do in 4 situations which require first-
aid?
T : " First - aid " what does it mean?
T: Now work in 4 groups to give the answers . Only 2
minutes for you.
- Call a S from each group to answer the questions.
- T comments their answers.
T : You know there are a lot of situations which require
first- aid in different ways , and to day we have to know a
real situation for first – aid happens at a school. Now
let’s begin the lesson.
- Let Ss open the books on page 80.
- T: Write the title on the board.
- Have Ss read the title of the lesson.

- We have known the situations which require first- aid

in the first part Getting started . Now come to the
second part - Listen and read
- 2 Ss go to the board
and do the matching.
- Read the names of
the things column A
and the situations in
the column B
- Ss answer the
questions

- T : Before listening and reading the dialogue, we have
to know some vocabulary
a, Vocabulary.
T: Look at this picture . This is an emergency room .
“ emergency” . Read “ emergency”
- Call 2 Ss to read the word.

+ emergency ( n )
T: What does it nean?
T : This is an ambulance. ( picture )
- Have Ss read aloud the word. “ambulance”
+ ambulance ( n )
- T: What does it mean?
- Call 2 Ss to read the word.
- Look . The boy has a bad cut in his leg. the wound is
bleeding quite badly. "wound " . Now read "wound "

- What does the word " wound " mean?
T : Let Ss read the word 2 times.
- Call 2 Ss to read the word.
- The next word is " conscious ". Now read "conscious "
+ conscious ( adj )
- " conscious " means " tØnh t¸o "
- The opposite word of "conscious" is "unconscious" .
- Have Ss read the word " unconscious "
- The last word is " pressure " . Now read " pressure "
- Look at the picture
and read aloud.
- Ss write the word in

- Each group call English words from Vietnamese words
appeared on the screen
- Group 1 plays first and the second for group 2.

in the left column on the screen
