1.Diễn tả những hành động đã xảy ra , đã kết thúc và có thời gian xác định trong quá
khứ .(last vd: last week; ago vd: three days ago;yesterday
Eg; I cooked dinner yesterday

2- Dùng để kể lại hoặc thuật lại một câu chuyện đã xảy ra trong quá khứ. Xảy ra ở một
khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ VD( from 1999 to 2007), Một chuổi hành động xảy ra
trong quá khứ.
3. Dùng để diễn tả hàn động thờng xuyên xảy ra trong quá khứ và đa chấm dứt ở hiện tại:
S + used to + V + O = S + usually + Ved(cột 2) ) O.
Trong Tiếng Anh ,ở quá khứ đơn động từ có đuôi tận cùng là ed có 3cách phát âm
+ Sau các âm : /sh/ ,/s/, /ch/,/k/ ,/p/ , /f/ ,/b/.thì phát âm là /t/.
+ Sau các âm : /t/ , /d/. phát âm là /_id/
+ Sau các nguyên âm và các phụ âm còn lại : phát âm là /d/.
