What is weather?
Weather changes every day.
Weather is what it is like outside.

The weather
is warm.

Weather may be dry or wet.
Weather may be cool or warm.
Weather may be windy or calm.

The weather is cool.

Wind

The wind is blowing.
Wind is air that moves.
Look at the picture.
Which way is the wind blowing?

A wind vane is a weather tool.
A wind vane points into the wind.
The arrow shows where the wind is
blowing from.
A wind vane is
a weather tool.

The wind can blow
in all directions.

Measuring
Temperature

A thermometer is a tool that measures
temperature.
There are numbers on a thermometer.
They show the temperature.

The weather can be hot or cold.
Temperature is how hot or cold something is.

You can measure the temperature of weather.

The red line goes up as the temperature
gets hotter.
The red line goes down as the temperature
gets colder.

The temperature is hot.

The temperature is cold.

Measuring Rain
Rain is water from clouds.
Rain falls from the sky in drops.
You can find out how much rain falls.

A rain gauge measures rain.
The top of the gauge is open.
Rain falls into the gauge.
There are numbers on a rain gauge.
They show how much rain falls.

A rain gauge catches water.
