USE:
We use the Present Progressive Tense to talk about:
 Things that are happening at the moment of
speaking.
 E.g.:
1- The students of class 6a5 are studying English
at the moment.
2- Look! It is raining outside.


Things that are in the process of changing or
developing this week, this month or this year.
E.g.:
1- Susan is writing another book this year.
2- He is taking more exercise these days.


FORM:
Affirmative: Subject + Be + Verb-ING +…

Gia Hưng is studying Literature.



Negative:
Subject + Be + NOT + Verb-ING +…

They are playing in the schoolyard.
They are not studying.


Interrogative:
Be+ Subject + Verb-ING + … ?

Are the students singing on the stage?


SPELLING OF -ING
-Verbs with 2 consonants add –ING.
*E.g.: Start  Starting
Fold  Folding


-Verbs ending in e  drop e, add –ING.
*E.g.: make making
write  writing


-Verbs ending ie  change ie into y, add –ING.
*E.g.: lie  lying
tie  tying


-Verbs ending in y  just add -ING.

*E.g.: Stay  Staying
Say  Saying


-Verbs ending with one vowel and one consonant .
1- One-syllable verbs:
1 vowel  2 consonants
E.g.: Sit  Sitting
2 vowels  1 consonant.
E.g.: Rain  Raining
2- Two-syllable verbs :
1st syllable- stressed 1 consonant.
E.g.: Listen  listening
2nd syllable-stressed  2 consonants.
E.g.: Begin  beginning
