UNIT: 1 A VISIT FROM A PEN PAL.
Lesson: 2 SPEAK + LISTEN
I.Objective:
• By the end of the lesson the pupils will be able to make and respond to
introduction & listen to specific information to select the correct pictures .
• The pupils feel proud of Vietnam country.
II. Language content :
1. Vocabulary: Review :grass, catch a bus, sign.
2. Grammar: Review simple present tense.
III. Techniques: Pairwork, groupwork, ask and answer.
IV. Teaching aids: Pictures, flip chart, cassette, tape.
V. Procedures:
Teacher's and pupils' activities Content
1. Warm- up.
T: Write the words whose letters are in
random order on the board.
T: Divide the class into two teams.
P: The students from two teams go to the
board and write the words.
T: The team which writes more correct
words wins the game.
* SPEAK
2. Pre-speaking.
T: Ask students some questions.
P: Listen and answer.
T: Show the picture of Nga and Maryam
and ask Ss:
? What do you see in the picture?
S: Nga and Maryam.


? Who are they?
S: They are Lan's friends.
3. While-speaking.
T: Introduce the situation: " Nga is
talking to Maryam.They are waiting
for Lan outside her school."
T: Ask ps to work in pairs to do exercise
 Jumbled words.

T: Ask ps to take turn to be one of
Maryam's friends and practice.
P: Work in pairs to practice the dialogue
T: Ask ps to practice in open pairs then
closed pairs.
T: Go around take notes things should be
corrected afterwards.
T: Call some pairs to check.

IV. Anser the questions about the dialogue.

2. Is Maryam enjoying her stay in Hanoi?

( Vietnamese people are very friendly and
Hanoi is a very interesting city )

V. Roleplay.
 Example.
A: Hello. You must be YoKo
B: That's right,I am.
A: Are you enjoying your stay in Hue?

people and I love old cities in Vietnam.
A: Do you live in a city, too?
B: Yes I live in Tokyo. Have you been there?
A: No, what's it like?
B: It's a busy big capital city. It's different
from Hue.
A: I see.

I / Telling about the pictures

T: Set the scene: " Tim Jones's Mexican
pen pal, Carlo is visiting the U S A"
T: Show the pictures and ask them to tell
what there is in each one where the
place is, what people are doing.
T: Review ss some words: catch a bus,
grass, sign.
T: Ask Ss to guess three things that Tim
and Carlo are doing.
P: Work in groups.
T: Tick the pictures that Ss guess.
? Who is walking on the grass?
? Which bus do they take?
? Which restaurant do they go to?
• While-listening.
P: Listen to the tape twice.
T: Give feedback.
P: Listen again to check their answers.
T: Correct.
T: Ask ss to compare their answers with
their guesses.
T: Ask ss to listen the tape again and note
ss the sentence: " I didn't see the
sign./It's time we caught the bus."
T: Review ss the simple past tense.
T: Elicit ss the structure 'It's time…"
T: Combine to educate Ss.
• Post-listening.

T: Ask ps to work in pairs to ask and
answer about what Carlo and Tim did,
use the simple past tense.
T: If Ss can not do, T may give the cues.
P: Work in pairs.
T: Call some pairs to check in front of the
class.
5. Homework:
 Practice the dialogue.
 Learn by heart the patterns
 Prepare " Write “.
