Audio script:

The right side is the wrong side!
Do you know that there are many countries in the world where the traffic rule is
to keep to the left? Some of these are the United Kingdom, Australia, India,
Thailand, Malaysia, etc. There are different reasons for this. One is that some
countries used the same system as the UK. Another is that many people are
right-handed!

2. Look at the strange driving laws below. Five of them are true, but one is false. In pairs, can
you find the false driving law?

In Alaska, you are not allowed to

It is illegal for women to

You have to wear a shirt or T-shirt

4. Now, work in groups. Discuss the laws and put them in order from the strangest (N°1) to the least strange (N°5).

No.

  Laws

Suggested order

The most strangest law is "You have to wear a shirt or T-shirt while driving in Thailand".

 1

It is a little crazy because if you forget to wear a shirt or a T-shirt, you can't drive. It's
inconvenient.

In Spain, people wearing glasses have to carry a spare pair in the car. It is a little strange.

The law "In South Africa, you have to let animals go first" is strange. It's because
animals are the first priority, not humans.

It's illegal for women to drive in Saudi Arabia. It's strange and unfair for women.

In Alaska, you are not allowed to drive with a dog on the roof. I think it's good because
it's safe for the humans and the dogs.

4. Now, work in groups. Discuss the laws and put them in order from the strangest (N°1)
to the least strange (N°5).

Are there strange rules in Vietnam?

I think there are no strange traffic rules in Vietnam because every law
is discussed very carefully before issuing and is amended after every
five years.

Please tell me what you have learnt today.

Yes, through the lesson we can now know the reason why
some countries drive on the left and some strange driving
laws in the world.
