CHINESE NEW YEAR.
Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day of the Lunar New Year. A month before
the New Year, the Chinese clean the houses and paint the walls. New clothes are bought for
the occasion. A week before the festival, housewives makes special cookies.
On the Eve of the New Year, the whole family gets together for a reunion dinner. Every
member of the family should be present during the dinner. Many different kinds of dishes
are served during the dinner.
On Chinese New Year morning, the young members of the family pay their respects to the
elders. In return they receive " Hongbaos ". Hongbao is a red packet containing money.
Then they go and visit friends and relatives. On the fifteenth day, another grand dinner is
held to mark the end of the festival.
