How to use the flashcards
Each level of Hide and Seek is accompanied by a set of flashcards which contain illustrations of the target letters,
numbers and words in each Unit. In Level 2, there are flashcards of the keywords (pictures and text) for each
phoneme introduced (see flashcards 2.4a–2.29b), and a flashcard of each of the sight words (see flashcards
2.51b–2.79b) which appear in the back of the Activity Book (see page 96).
The flashcards can be used in the following ways:
• to teach and revise the topic vocabulary.
• to be part of a topic display.
• as a focus or aid in vocabulary games (See Teacher’s Guide).
• as prompts for vocabulary revision practice.
•as picture prompts for sounding out known VC (vowel + consonant) and CVC (consonant + vowel + consonant)
words (segmenting).
• to be given to the children to use in games and revision activities.
• as a classroom frieze.
Showing the cards to the class
When showing a flashcard to the class, make sure you stand in a place where everyone can see the card, and hold
the card in such a way that your fingers are not obscuring the image.
Move the card slowly from your right to left so that everyone has a chance to see the image clearly. Say the word
the card represents (or elicit the word from the children) several times as you do so. The card can then be clearly
displayed on the whiteboard for class reference as part of the lexical set you are presenting.
Flashcards and the Interactive Whiteboard Software
The flashcards for each level will be available on the Interactive Whiteboard Software.
