where an action took place.

 Adverbs of place are placed after the main
verb or after the object.
After the main verb:

After the object:

.
A list of most common adverbs of place:
here there abroad
inside outside backwards
forwards downwards upwards
inwards outwards upstairs
downstairs ahead outdoors
indoors nearby around
nowhere everywhere somewhere
out away uphill
NOTE: Most common adverbs of place also
function as prepositions.
Examples:
about, across, along, around, behind, by,
down, in, off, on, over, round, through,
under, up
.
Such adverbs become prepositions when they
are followed by a noun.
The child was running around the house.
“around” is a preposition in this sentence.
She turned around and waved goodbye to us.
“around” is an adverb in this sentence because
it is not followed by a noun.
