Topic : In developing countries, children in rural communities have less access
to education. Some people believe that the problem can be solved by providing
more schools and teachers, while others think that the problem can be solved by
providing computers and Internet access.
People have differing views about how to aid children in rural areas regarding
their access to education. Although the provision of computers and the Internet
can temporarily address the issue, I would argue that the best measure is to
establish new schools and employ more teachers.
On the one hand, I understand why some people believe that expanding the
Internet network and supplying computers for children in remote areas give

them opportunities to approach education. Firstly, it is thought that students
can acquire a great deal of knowledge from the online platform, most of
which either is free of charge or requires small fees. Educational websites, such
as Wikipedia, have been constantly established to promote distance learning for

children whose neighborhoods have few schools and teachers. Secondly, online
classes and courses are widely available and accessible, which makes
geographic adversities become rather irrelevant. It is because students,
regardless of their background or location, can enroll in a class or course of
their preference. This would therefore aid them to have access to education in
their remote communities.
On the other hand, I would side with those who think that building more schools
and hiring new teachers would permanently solve the problem. Only schools
can create an effective learning environment for students to interact or
compete with one another and comprehensively develop their scholastic
competence and characteristics. Furthermore, teachers can discover students’
weaknesses during their teaching process, hence better and more effective
educating methodologies, which leads to more fruitful results.
In conclusion, it seems to me that it is best to construct schools and employ
teachers in rural areas, instead of depending on technology to bring about
education opportunities for children at such places.

Topic : Some employers offer their employees subsidised membership of gyms
and sports clubs, believing that this will make their staff healthier and thus more
effective at work. Other employers see no benefit in doing so. Consider the
arguments from both aspects of this possible debate, and reach a conclusion.
Employers are always seeking ways to enhance their

employees’ productivity, and subsidising healthy pursuits may be
one way of achieving this. There are arguments on both sides;
however, which we will discuss here.
On the one hand, it might be said that if workers are fitter and less
stressed, their working time will be more efficient, leading to higher
levels of output and service. Furthermore, the work-life balance of
the staff will hopefully be improved, because their leisure time will be
more fulfilling. This may even be more motivating than pay
increments, perks, or financial rewards such
as bonuses or incentives which may be hard to attain. Finally, feeling
healthier may lead to better job satisfaction which is in itself a
motivating factor.
Conversely, the problem with such leisure-based subsidies is that
their efficacy is virtually impossible to quantify. For example,
with target-related payments, employers can at least see whether
the objectives are reached or not. It might also be said that, if this
budget was spent on (for instance) on the job training or day release
programmes, the employees would achieve better career
progression and have better job prospects. These matters are all
easier to measure, especially in performance
reviews and appraisals, and may even help to reduce the risk
of redundancy if the company restructures,
downsizes or outsources its workforce.
Overall, it seems that, while health-related subsidies
are superficially attractive, the lack of measurability is a substantial
drawback. Spending funds on ongoing training would appear to be a
better use of company or Human Resources budgets.

Topic :People tend to work longer hours nowadays. Working long hours has a

negative effect on themselves their families and the society so working hours
should be restricted. Do you agree or disagree ?
Working longer hours is getting more common in today’s society. I personally
believe that this trend not only has a severe impact on the workers themselves,
but also on their families and the community as a whole. Therefore, I totally
agree with the idea of limiting working hours.
A few decades ago, a person normally worked an average of eight hours per
day. Average daily working hours in recent years, however, have significantly
increased to ten or even fourteen. This, in my opinion, directly leads to pressure
at work. For example, people who spend longer at work are more likely to
suffer from various health issues, ranging from fatigue to more serious problems
like anxiety disorders or even stroke . Failing health leads to more sick
leave , poor work performance and low productivity. My cousin is a case in
point. Working nearly twelve hours on a daily basis, he frequently feels
exhausted and makes more errors at work than he used to.
I also think that extended hours of work has serious consequences for families
and communities . At the family level, busy working schedules prevent people
from taking frequent family trips or even just having meals together.
Relationships among members are greatly weakened if they cannot make time
for each other. In terms of community life, heavy workload deters people from
devoting time to voluntary activity that brings benefits for their society. My
uncle, for example, hardly has time for local community service projects such as
conservation work or working with a charity because he works more than sixty
hours per week.
In conclusion, I would argue that working time should be reduced since the
frequency of long working hours exerts an adverse effect on employees,
their family bonds and their community.
