1 Period 1:
INTRODUCTION
I.Aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to master the structure of English textbook
6 and the way to learn each section in each unit and how to practice them.
II. Procedure:
1. Warm up: Lucky flowers!
1. How many units are there in English textbook 6?
There are 10 units in English textbook 6 (5 units in term 1, 5 units in term 2)
2. LF!
3. What are the parts/ the themes in the new textbook ?
4. What is the part at the end of each Unit? (Project)
5. What difficulties might you cope with in teaching this new textbook ?

2. Introducing the structure of an English book :
1. This book contains 12 units with 12 subjects that you’ve learnt in grade 5 but with the
larger information.
2. The components of the textbook: The student’s book and the workbook .
3. The student’s book contains: The book map: introduction to the basics of each unit, 12
topic-based Units, each covering 8 sections to be taught in seven 45 – minute lessons, 4
Reviews, each providing revision and further practice of the previous three units, to be dealt
within two periods.

5. Looking back + Project is at the end of each unit .Its contents are main grammar notes,
further practice.
3. The way to prepare a lesson well at home :
1. Depending on each Unit, you have to read the content of a lesson well, prepare
vocabulary, grammar...
2. According to the parts : Listen and Read, Language focus , or Read. Master the content
of these, find new knowledge, find the meaning and the pronunciation of each new word. It
is better for you to learn it by heart at home.
3. After a lesson, relearn the lesson, learn the vocabulary by heart and write them correctly
and do the exercises in your Exercise Book.

4. You must master the main and basic grammar notes well. They are very important. You
must master their theories and then do the exercise.
4. If you have more free time, read reference books, listen to the tape or listen to the radio,
watch the program of teaching English on TV on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
5. You can practice speaking English everyday, or practice English with your classmates at
class

Lesson 1: Getting started
I. Aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to understand the conversation about a
special day
* Preparations : Posters, pictures. A cassette
II. Procedure :
1. Warm up : Kim’s game
- Teacher sticks the pictures of school things on the board .
- Ss look at these pictures in 30 seconds, remember things in the pictures.
- Call Ss come to the board and write down the words about the school things in the picture.
- Divide the class into 2 teams.
Key: bicycle, pencil sharpener, , calculator , rubber, compass, notebook, ruler, textbook,
pencil case, school bag.

- T. reads the names of each thing , Ss listen and slap the things read by the teacher
2. Pre - Reading:

2.1. Teacher sets the scene by asking Ss about the picture:
- What is Phong doing ? (He is eating/ having breakfast)
- Who are Duy and Vy ? (They are Phong’s friends)
- Why is it a special day ? (Beacause it’s the first day at school)

II. Procedure :
Check up:
- Talk about your special day.
- Read and write 5 school things.

- T gives out ten pictures, and ask Ss to work in groups of 4 to write the words in each
picture. Call Ss to come to the board and write down.

- T pronounces 2 sounds and asks Ss to observe the T’s lip positions for these
two sounds.
- T explains: Identify the vowels which are pronounce /ʊə/

2.2. Listen to the words and put them into 2 groups:
- Ss listen to the recording twice.
- Ss work individually to put the words into 2 groups.
- Ss check their answers in groups.
- T calls some Ss to write their answers on the board. T corrects their mistakes.

Lesson 3: A Closer Look 2
I. Aims : By the end of the lesson, Ss can read for specific information about schools and
read e-mails, use the present simple and the present continuous tense and choose the correct
tense of the verbs.
* Preparations : Posters, pictures. A cassette
II. Procedure :
Check up: - Put 2 sentences, using have / do / play / study
- Pronounce 2 sounds /∂u / and /Λ/ and recognize sounds in sentences.
Warm up: Chatting
1. New lesson:
1.1.The present simple:
Formation:
a/ Positive: I / You / We / They… + Verb ( infi. )…
He / She / It… + V-s/ V-es …
b/ Negative: I / You / We / They… + don’t / do not + Verb…
He / She / It… + doesn’t / does not + Verb…
c/ Questions and short answers:
Do / Does + S + V… ? _ Yes, S + do / does.
_ No, S + don’t / doesn’t.
Remember! The present simple verbs with : he / she / it … need an s/es
Use: When something often happens or is fixed: The present simple

2. The present continuous
Formation:
a/ Positive: S + am / is / are + V-ing + …………..
b/ Negative: S + am / is / are + not + V-ing + ………..
c/ Questions and short answers:
Am / Is / Are + S + V-ing… ?_ Yes, S + am / is / are.
_ No, S + isn’t / aren’t.
Use:
When something is happening now: The present continuous
Example:
- I am going to school now.
- Where are the students playing football?
- Look ! Nam is drawing a big house.
2.1/ Find the present continous form in the conversation:
T asks Ss to listen to the conversation in Getting started and find the present continuous
form. Ss read the sentences, using the present continuous tense.
Answers: is knocking…, is having…, are wearing
2.2/ Complete the sentences with the correct form of the verbs:

T explains the example: Yummy! I’m having school lunch with my new friends.
T asks Ss to write the correct verb forms.
Feedback: Ss read the verb and the whole sentence correctly.

1. Warm up : Tell me names of some secondary school in Thach Ha town :
Today we are going to get to know some secondary schools in VN and around the world.
Let’s begin our lesson today.
2. Vocabulary:

Ss complete the table in their notebooks .
Then divide the class into groups of 4 or 5 , let them discuss their answers to the questions ,
and give the reasons . When they finish , ask some Ss to talk to the class , then the class give
their comments on their friends’ content , pronunciation, fluency , language ( grammar , use
of words ….) , body language , etc.

I. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students can listen to get information about school
activities,write a webpage for their school, using correct punctuation.
* Preparations: Posters, pictures. A cassette
II. Procedure
1. Warm up: Asking - answering
2. Listening:
- Give the full name of PLC Sydney (Presbyterian Ladies’ College Sydney)
- T introduces Susie Brewer – a student of PLC Sydney
- T plays the recording.
- Ask Ss to listen only the first time.
- Then play the recording again and allow Ss to choose the correct answers as they listen
- Ss can share their answers before listening to the recording a final time to check

3. Writing: A web page for your school
3.1 Pre-writing : Writing good punctuation
T tells the Ss the importance of punctuation marks .
Allow some time for them to study the writing tips

Explain to them the new words and punctuation marks
+ Does your writing have correct punctuation ?
+ Capital letters for : starting sentences , names , days and months , the pronoun I and
places
+ Pauses and endings : commas to separate by sentences and lists of things.
+ Full stops , question marks , or exclamation marks are put at the end of the sentences.
Ask Ss to correct the punctuation in the sentences in their notebooks .
Then call 5 Ss to write 5 sentences on the board .
Let the class comment and check .
Teacher finally gives correction .

* Create a webpage for your school:
- First Ss brainstorm for the language necessary for writing.
- Allow Ss to refer back to the reading for useful language and note interesting expressions
and language on the board.
- T can also show a webpage to inspire Ss
- Tell Ss to write a draft first, trying to answer all the questions.

- Then Ss write a paragraph of about 80 words about their school, covering as many ideas
as possible of the answers to these questions.
- Tell Ss to pay attention to punctuation, structural elements, linking words …
- Ss have 7 minutes to write their webpage of their school.
- After finishing, Ss share their writing with their friends .
