Abstract : The gast ropod B aby loni a areol at a Link is one of t he important commercial marine animals in t he sout heast coast s of Chi2
na ,and much attention has been received in aquacult ure in recent years. A 752day growt h st udy was conducted using B aby loni a a reo2
l at a wit h mean initial mass and shell lengt h of (2. 95

0. 28) g and (2. 06

0. 10) cm , respectively ,to evaluate t he efficacy of six

p ractical diet s containing vario us p rotein so urces such as fish meal ( FM) ,soybean meal ( SBM) ,rapeseed meal ( RM) ,beer yeast (B Y)

in different co mbinatio ns ,at a temperat ure range of 25

and t he salinity range of 26

p rotein sources co ming f rom a combination of FM , SBM and RM ( 1

28. The result showed t hat Diet 5 feeding

1 ) ( by mass ) p roduced t he highest relative mass gain

( RM G) in test diet s ,and significantly greater t han Diet 1 ( p < 0. 05 ) ,however ,not significantly different ( p < 0. 05 ) f rom ot her di2
et s. Feed conversion ratio ( FCR) showed t he same t rend as relative mass gain. Diet 1 and Diet 5 gave a significantly better perform2
ance t han t he ot her four diet s in relative shell lengt h gain ( RSL G) ( p < 0. 05) . Diet 1 and Diet 2 wit h p rotein resources coming f rom
FM and FM ,SBM ( 1

1) ( by mass) ,respectively ,had significantly inferior values of p rotein efficiency rate ( p < 0. 05 ) co mpared to

t he ot her diet s. The survival rate was not significantly different ( p < 0. 05) amo ng all t reat ment s. This st udy indicated t hat a combina2
tio n of alternative dietery p rotein sources wit h p roper ratio was necessary to attain t he best growt h performance and p rofit ,f urt her2
more ,based on t he analysis of t he data of t his st udy ,we could determine t he optimal p rotein sources for B aby loni a areol at a Link was
Diet 5 which used t he combination of FM ,SBM and RM (1

1) (by mass) . This st udy is significant to co nduct f urt her st udy for


t he eco no mical and efficent p ratical diet fo rmulation of B aby loni a areol at a Link.
