Unit 5 : Batteries
Task 1 :
- Because it’s handy , you can bring it with your device everywhere
- There are two kind of batteries : primary cell ( non-rechargeable ) ,
secondary cell ( rechargeable )
- List of the things contain batteries : Mobile phone , radio , flashlight ,
tape recorder , robot , clock …..
Task 2 :
Zinc – carbon cell
Nicad cell
Type of cell
Primary
Secondary
Positive electrode
Manganese dioxide
Nickel
Negative electrode
Zinc
Cadmium
Example of use
Torches
Portable phones
Zinc – carbon cell
Nicad cell
Electrolyte
The electrolyte is a
solution of ammonium
chloride
The electrolyte is
potassium hydroxide
EMF
1.5V and internal
resistant about 0.5 ohms
1,2V
Task 4 :
Task 6 :
1.c : It’s called a resistor. It adds resistant to a circuit
2.g : It’s called a potentiometer.It varies the current in a circuit
3.h : It’s called a transformer.It steps AC voltage up or down
4.f : It’s called a switch .It protect a circuit
5.b : It’ called a diode.It recifies alternating current
6.j : It’s known as a volmeter . It measures voltages
7.a : It’s known as a variable capacitor . it varies capacitance in a circuit
8.e : It’s called a fuse . It breaks a circuit
9.d : It’s known as ammeter. It measures very small currents
10.i : It’s known as an aerial. It receives RF signal
Task 8 :
1. Oscillator
2. Transmitter
3. Transfomer
4. Charger
5. Rectifier
6. Processor
7. Amplifier
8. Collector
9. Detector
10.Tuner
Task 9 :
- Fuse
- Neon lamp
- Transfomer
- Four diodes
- Electrolytic capacitor
- Zener diode
- Bipolar transistor NPN
Task 10 :
1. a
2. h
3. d
4. f
5. g
6. c
7. e
8. b
Task 11 :
1. the function is recharged to their original voltage and can be used many
times over
2. The transformer consist of a transfomer , a neon lamp , a doublepole switch , a fuse .
o The rectifier is composed of four diodes which mounted an
aluminium heatstick
o The smoothing circuit consist of a large electrolytic capacitor
o The stabilizing circuit is composed of a transistor biased by two
resistors and a zener diode
3. Transformer is connected to rectifier by the output of a
transformer
o Rectifier is connected to smoothing circuit by the output of a
bridge rectifier
o Smoothing circuit is connected to stabilizing circuit by the output
of a largre electrolytic capacitor
4. -
Transformer : step down the voltage of the AC mains
o Rectifier : converts the AC voltage to a DC voltage
o Smoothing circuit : removes the flutuations in the DC output of
the rectifier
o Stabilizing circuit : Prevents the output from changing when the
load varies
