WRITING:
TOPIC:
2) In your opinion, what is the most important characteristic (for example honesty,
intelligence, a sense of humor) that a person can have to be successful in life? Use
reasons and examples to explain from your experience to explain your answer. When
you write your answer you are not limited to the examples listed in the question.
What we call life is a very complex affair; it’s not simply eating, reproducing and
finally dying. Man exists in life not merely as biological entities like other creatures but he
has to lead a highly complicated life. He is required more or, to say he must lead a life of
success. Being a success! Yes, that is what man all dreams of, he wants to succeed in school,
in his jobs, in his relationships. Briefly to say, he wishes to succeed in life. So, in order to do
so, he has to develop certain qualities.
At first, he must set an aim in life, as the saying goes “an aimless man is like a boat without
a rudder, drifting at random along the stream.” Therefore, the very first thing he needs to do is
to clarify what he would like to be, never lets other define him and or tell him what he can’t
,just be himself . As Oprah Winfrey said:” Nobody had any clue that my life could be
anything but working in some factory or a cotton field in Mississippi, nobody, for her entire
life, people have been telling her what she can’t do, but she has kept her mind from them.
Rather, she says, she listens to her own instincts. “Gut is what got me where I am today “she
said. To make an accurate definition what you want to be and who you are, is the crux of the
problem. Your goal must be based on your own adjustment and be pursued with passion.
Pursue the work you love will pave the way for you to do it to the best of your ability
Otherwise, you’re just travelling through the world wildly- and there’s no point in that. Once,
having decided, you must work for attaining certain standards in that line with the firmly
belief that you will make it
Still another quality is not to argue, that’s perseverance. Indeed, life is not a bed of roses, but
life is struggle in which you may be met with failure, if you let yourself defeated by it, what
you expect will turn away from you. Instead, you should bounce back from disappointment and
found yourself stamina to persist with the goals and keep going on and on… Perseverance is
the key to success. Mario Lemieux, Helen Keller, Abraham Lincoln, Marie Curie and an
endless list of other great achievers found that success inevitably arrives for everyone who

perseveres. Yes, be persistent in your dreams you will achieve the extraordinary.
Actually, self-belief or in other words, self- confidence is a very key to open the door of
success. Yet, Most of the people believe that” success” is out of their life’s vocabulary range
because they don't have what it takes, or because they don’t have enough good conditions!
They are ever obsessed by thought that luck is never on their side or that they weren't cut out to
be successful, those people will surely end their life in nothingness. On the contrary, the most
successful persons in the world all have one point in common: They all believed firmly that
they were going to be exactly what they expected to be. They never doubt themselves, their
potentials are what they place their faith in and they were absolutely convinced that they would
make it to the top! They never accepted a “No “for an answer. Nothing as ever stopped them,
slowed down maybe, but never stopped! Yes, on the chessboard of life one may find himself in
any position. It may be the all powerful Queen or simply a pawn, must be remembered that
given the chance, even a pawn can destroy a Queen. You just need self-confidence. It’s a belief
that you’ll indeed be successful, and that you have all that it takes to make to the top! You have
to BELIEVE that YOU ARE the most successful person you ever met. If you don’t believe in
yourself, who on earth do you think will?
And what’s more, don’t be afraid of making mistakes, not hesitated at taking any risk,
since they’re parts of the learning process leading to the desired destination. In acquiring a
wishful result or succeeding at business present difficulties. Ultimately, people who persevere
in taking advantages over mistakes, learning from setbacks and staying on course are to
become successful. On the road of life, to stumble over failure is unavoidable, but the man of
wisdom is the one who knows to rise up and be mature after each fall. After thousands of
efforts to make the electric light bulb, Thomas Edison said, “I haven’t failed, I’ve identified
10,000 ways that it doesn’t work.” Life is a journey in which every failure will teach you who
you really are and address your limitations. And also, please take risks and welcome any
opportunity, golden chance may come to you just in a fleeting moment , every answer “no” to
it will have your chance blown off and you could do nothing but witness other make use of
what should have been yours. Successful persons are daring ones who venture to make big
investment in their doings and all investments involve risk. It may sound insane but “No pains
no gains”. To leave your comfort oasis, study your risk, make sure the odds are in your favor

and prepare your 100% there to grasp it with an open mind, willingness to cope to any
unexpected incident, positive attitude and beliefs; you might be amazed at the goals and
dreams that are made available to you.
Another point that appeals to consideration is that “Are honesty and integrity- two
cornerstones to true success?” as Joseph Sugarman has well said” Each time you are honest
and conduct yourself with honesty, a success force will drive you toward greater success.
Each time you lie, even with a little white lie, there are many strong forces pushing you
toward failure”. Yes, integrity and honesty is a magic answer to the call for success. But how
to be honest and with whom should you be? First you should be open and honest about
yourself addressing your strengths and weaknesses, don’t take bitter at your breach and insist
on filling it; instead, find help for this area that will enable you to focus on strengths. Or to
say, to be honest about yourself and your business creates growth as an individual and as a
company; it’s also the path to mastery and success. To be honest with your partners will
nourish long-term business, it’s undeniable, but, is it always the best policy? What if someday
when asked about the secret strategy for your achievements, you give a truly honest response,
don’t you think you may catch your partner red-handed unfairly stealing your commissions
someday in the future? You might be surprised and disgusted by some of the true horror
stories of successful distributors who have been unfairly robbed by unethical or unscrupulous
companies. Sadly enough, it’s nothing unusual. Another important area that can be given
insights into is a concept of “integrity factor” is the temptation to corner or shade the truth to
avoid the relationship breakup. In case one is asked for opinion about the boss’s pet project at
a staff meeting. Should you be honest “To call a spade a spade” to your boss? .No, that is the
last thing you should do, instead, you’d better “sandwich” your criticism by pleading the need
to look at the issue more closely and then offering the candid thoughts in private would be an
alternative that fulfills a professional responsibility and maintains a respectful relationship.. In
short, Honesty at work, as elsewhere, is the best policy. But tact and judgment are needed to
prevent the truth from hurting others--or yourself.
How about intelligence? Is intelligence an ideal formula for workplace success?
When mention intelligence, we tend to think about “inert intelligence” (IQ), the ability
to memorize things quickly. That does not necessarily lead to goal-directed action or

real-world problem-solving. Since memorization does not equal to success in life. More
than that, there’re other kinds of brain powers considered competent assistants, one of
which is “successful intelligent” that determines one’s ability to cope in career and in
life. "Successfully intelligent" are capitalized on people’s strengths of correction or
compensation for their weaknesses; self-motivation and flexibility in their work style,
they create their own opportunities, actively seek out role models, recognize and
accurately define problems and know when perseverance is a necessity. The other is
“Emotional intelligence” (EQ).That’s the ability to be aware of and controlling our
emotions, getting along with others, adapting to changes and maintaining a positive
mood. Which helps build positive relationships with colleagues and improve
performance In fact, it has been scientifically demonstrated that emotional intelligence
and successful intelligence are actually more important in predicting success in the
workplace than cognitive intelligence.
And the last one to address: is a sense of humor worth big money in the workplace? The
Harvard Business Review found that executives with a sense of humor climb the corporate
ladder faster and make more money in their careers. Why? The traditional wisdom suggests
that serious people are given more credence in business. After all, who would want a
goofball handling finances, dealing with an upset client or piloting your plane? But levity
isn’t about being silly, it’s about lightening up a presentation, workplace or relationship to
enhance communication, trust and credibility which is found to be significantly enhanced
with levity by an overwhelming amount of evidence. Other benefits are better
communication, since when we are laughing we are listening. Also, creativity is stronger.
One great example is Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Empire and a really, really rich
guy. He’s crossed dressed, bungee, jumped, hung out in bars and done about everything
possible to connect with and have fun with his people. He’s a billionaire who got there by
building an organization that is serious about winning, but serious about having fun along
the way.
To sum up, there are many qualities that tailor us to be successful in life and those are
some of them. “Success” a noun sounds so simple but to master it may take us a lifetime and
tremendous efforts that not many of us can be in possession of.
