1 Long ago, in the year 1070, there were
2 no universities in Viet Nam. So, in 1076,
3 Emperor Ly Nhan Tong decided to build one
4 - the Imperial Academy. It is considered the
5 first university in Viet Nam. The university was
6 a great success and thousands of Vietnamese
7 scholars graduated from this university.
8 The Imperial Academy has a long and
9 interesting history. Many kings, emperors
10 and scholars worked to develop the university.
11 Chu Van An was regarded as one of the most
12 famous teachers at the Imperial Academy.
13 In modern time, the Imperial Academy
14 continues to grow and receive recognition.
15 Many old buildings were reconstructed in
16 1999. In 2003, four statues (Ly Thanh Tong,
17 Ly Nhan Tong, Le Thanh Tong, and Chu Van An)
18 were built. In 2010, the 82 Doctors’ stone
19 tablets were recognised by UNESCO.
