questions from 25 to 28:
Camping holidays are always popular with students and young people - they are a cheap and easy way
to see the country. People often travel by train, by coach or on foot, so one thing is important to remember
before starting: You can only take with you what you can carry – usually in a rucksack on your back.
If you travel with a friend, of course some items can be shared – a tent, a gas stove, food. Other things
must be taken by each person – clothes, footwear, and a sleeping bag.
So you must be sure of how much you can carry. Most people find 10 kg about right. Much more than
that and you need another holiday when you get home! And remember, if the weather is wet, your rucksack is
heavier.
Many people who go camping for the first time take too much and then find they have forgotten the
essentials – a tin of beans is no good without a tin opener! But with practice and good advice you can have a
fantastic holiday.

resources. State higher education officials are studying how laptops can help students. State officials are also
use testing laptop program at other universities, too. At Westlake College, more than 60 percent of the staff use
computer. The laptops will allow all teachers to use computers in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said:

Nanotechnology will bring about enormous changes. Doctors, for example, will be able to cure any illness.
The environment will be improved because it will be possible to take the polluted air we breathe and make it

Although computers are considered the most perfect and effective devices in our modern time, we cannot
avoid some certain problems when we are working on a computer. Letters and phone conversations are private.
It is against the law to open someone's mail without permission or to listen secretly to someone's telephone
conversation. And now there are laws to protect the privacy of e-mail. It is also against the law to read the
messages that a person sends or receives on a computer. Although each person has a secret password for his
or her e-mail, sometimes the passwords are discovered by hackers and the mailbox is opened. Recently several
companies that do business on the Internet have been attacked. The attackers sent huge amounts of useless emails to the Web sites of these companies. The effect was to slow or stop the ability of the companies to do their
business. Such actions are known as "denial of service" attacks. The companies say they may have lost millions
of dollars because they were not able to provide goods and services during the attacks. Most of the companies
were able to solve the problem in about three hours. The victims of the attacks included some of largest and
most successful companies on the Internet, such as Yahoo, Amazon, and Com and E-Trade. The police have
investigated the attackers. The computer industry leaders have discussed the electronic attacks and the
problems of computer crime. They suggest that a person who is found guilty of such a crime should be

sentenced to at least 10 years in prison.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the
questions from 21 to 24.
Ludwig Van Beethoven, one of the most popular classical composers of all time, is sometimes known as "the
Shakespeare of music". He was born in Bonne in 1770, and published his first work at the age of thirteen. Mozart
was his teacher for a short time, although they did not get on well together; Beethoven was a difficult student.
As a composer, Beethoven was a genius - but as a person, he was not very easy to like. He was a passionate
man who lost his temper very easily. He was also arrogant. The upper class of Vienna used to invite him to
parties, where he was often quite rude. He was once heard to say to a prince: "There will always be many

princes, but there is only one Beethoven".
Nevertheless, Beethoven composed some of the most beautiful symphonies the world has ever heard. How was
such an arrogant, bad-tempered man inspired to write such romantic music? Perhaps the answer lies in the
three letters that were found after his death. They were addressed to his "Immortal Beloved Woman". Nobody
knows who this woman was, but it appears that Beethoven was deeply in love with her for most of his adult life.
21. Which of the following adjectives does not represent Beethoven’s character?
A. arrogant.
B. bad-tempered.
C. likeable.
D. rude.
22. What can be inferred about Beethoven?
A. He was an obedient student.
B. Mozart gave him music lessons.
C. He was quite polite at the parties.
D. He published his work in his teens.
23. What did he probably mean by saying “There will always be many princes, but there is only one Beethoven” ?
A. He was a special and unique.
B. He was the only musician at the parties.
C. He was superior to princes.
D. There were many princes at the parties.
24. According to the passage, three letters ____________________ .
A. were written after his death.

C. were sent to his beloved
D. inspired him to write romantic music
