resultofmanyconsequences,including:thelarge,agingBabyBoomer

anincreaseinthedemandformedicalservices;therapidlychanging
financialstructureandincreasinglycomplexregulatoryenvironmentof
healthcare;theintegrationofhealthcaredeliverysystems,restructuringof
work,andanincreasedfocusonpreventivecare;andtheubiquitous
technologicalinnovations,requiringunceasingeducationaltrainingand
monitoring.
Giventhistremendousgrowthandtheaforementionedcausesofit,itis

continuingdesiretohaveanexcellenttextbookthatmeetstheneedsofthe
healthcaremanagementfield,healthcaremanagementeducators,and
studentsenrolledinhealthcaremanagementprogramsaroundtheworld.
Theinspirationforthefirsteditionofthisbookcameoveragoodcupof
coffeeandadeep-seatedunhappinesswiththetextsavailablein2004.This
editionbuildsonthestrengthsofthefirsttwoeditionsandisbasedonan
ongoingconversationwithendusers—instructorsandstudents—fromall
typesofhighereducationinstitutionsandalltypesofdeliverymodalities.
